Ex-GTA Lead’s Game Creation Sandbox Everywhere Has a Beta Next Week

Ex-GTA lead Leslie Benzies and his studio Build a Rocket Boys have announced an Everywhere beta test, potentially giving you a chance to test out the hugely ambitious sandbox project.

Per a post on the official Everywhere website, the beta will begin on June 18th and will revolve around ARCADIA, which is Everywhere‘s system for building and publishing games (and not the malevolent AI overmind it sounds like).

According to Build a Rocket Boys, you’ll be able to create everything from “a massive boss fight” through to “a level complete with enemies and puzzles” and share it via ARCADIA without needing any coding knowledge.

Everywhere promises to let you build your own games with no coding knowledge.

While the so-called Builders Beta will let you loose on ARCADIA, there are certain things it won’t offer a chance to look at, like Biomes and “a few locations in Utropia”.

According to the devs, this is in order to focus on testing Everywhere‘s no-code-required tools for building games and making them ready for future testing phases.

The devs also say they’ve made a number of improvements to Everywhere since its alpha test in November, which took place following the first “gameplay” footage of the sandbox tool being released.

These improvements include new ARCADIA tools and tips, “significantly reduced” loading times between launch and play, and an improved first-time user experience, so if you did take part in the alpha, you’ll likely still find a transformed experience this time around.

If you want to gain access to the Everywhere beta, you’ll need to create a Build a Rocket Boys account for yourself, which you can do here. Build a Rocket Boys says it recommends “completing the ‘Where do you Like to Build’ form” that appears towards the end of account creation.

The devs say you’ll have a much nicer experience with the game if you can meet the following PC specs (it’s not a requirement, but Build a Rocket Boys says it “cannot guarantee a smooth session” otherwise).

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
  • 16GB RAM
  • 50GB SSD space

Bear in mind that these specs are intended to target 1080p resolution and a 30fps frame rate, so if you want to get higher than that, you’ll need a pretty beefy machine.

The Everywhere beta starts on PC on June 18th. Applicants will be invited in waves, so if you don’t immediately get invited, don’t lose hope; you may still get a chance to try the “game” out.
