Re: Singh tells Conservatives to back off as House prepares for first pharmacare vote, online, May 6

Article content

Democracy is normally viewed as government for the people and by the people. Yet Jagmeet Singh, whose party won 25 seats and garnered only about 18 per cent of the popular vote, is lecturing the official Opposition that won 119 seats and got almost 34 per cent of the popular vote, the latter more than either Singh or Justin Trudeau.

Singh needs to be reminded that not only did Canadians not vote for the socialist partnership he and Trudeau formed, but they also never voted to give him a mandate to implement dental and pharmacare plans. These plans will cost taxpayers billions annually.

This bromance was formed solely so that Trudeau could stay in power until 2025 and Singh could get his wishlist filled for supporting him.

Let’s hope that in 2025 Singh-Trudeau actually run as one socialist party and allow voters to decide if that is what they want governing them.

ON TIME IN TORONTO

I used to live in Toronto. Hey, I make no apologies for that! I had the occasion to visit the city a few weeks back. In all my years of riding the TTC, I can’t recall ever having delays or stoppages like the ones in Ottawa.

As an aside, don’t ever drive to downtown Toronto; take public transportation. We took the GO train from Oshawa. It’s a one-hour-and-three-minute trip with seven or eight stops. Guess what? It was on time! The subway and the surface transportation (the Red Rocket) were also top-notch. Read that to mean on time without any problems.

Wonder if any of those working on the Ottawa LRT spoke with their Toronto or Montreal counterparts before putting a shovel in the ground?

MAYBE PLANT TREES?

Growing up in the ’70s and ’80s, we were constantly told about how the Amazon rainforest influenced the weather in the Northern Hemisphere. Back then, farmers and industry were clear-cutting at an exponential rate. Jump 50 years and, minus a couple million acres later, the rainforest is still being cleared and not replenished.

Our government is penalizing us for climate change when a lot of the culprits are on different continents. The carbon tax is just another name for the usual tax grab. Here’s an idea: Maybe plant more trees to help fight climate change and clean the air. It’s a no-brainer. But when has our current government ever had any brains?
