The Star Wars Jedi Series Opened a Door But Hasn’t Walked Through Yet

  • The Star Wars Jedi series offers players a chance to live out Jedi fantasies and experience Cal Kestis’ journey to becoming a Jedi Knight.
  • The structure of the series’ title, “Star Wars Jedi,” hints at potential spin-offs that explore different roles and narratives in the Star Wars universe, with “Jedi” being replaced with another word.
  • The possibility of Cal Kestis turning to the Dark Side could lead to a shift in the series’ title to “Star Wars Sith,” adding depth to the overarching narrative.

Both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, have proven to be two of the best Star Wars games ever made, as they have given players an opportunity to live out their Jedi fantasies in a way no other game has done before. As Cal Kestis, players have experienced his growth from being a mere Jedi Padawan to a full-fledged Jedi Knight, picking up new skills, cosmetics, and lightsabers along the way. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the most recent game in the series, and there is already another sequel in the works.

Apart from all that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have brought to the table just by being excellent Star Wars games, they have introduced another intriguing concept simply in their title. Specifically, the title Star Wars Jedi has several rather weighty implications and almost mysteriously opens the door to possibilities that could come into play in future installments.

The Argument for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Sequel to Set Up a Third Oggdo Rematch

The Star Wars Jedi series has challenged fans to a fight against Oggdo Bogdo twice, and the third game definitely needs to do it again.

Star Wars Jedi’s Title Opens the Door for Spin-Offs and Role Changes

Star Wars Jedi’s Title Leaves the Door Open for Spin-Offs

Perhaps unintentionally so, Respawn’s naming of the Star Wars Jedi series opens the door to a multitude of possibilities. Particularly, the “Jedi” in Star Wars Jedi could be changed at any moment to create new spin-off games or entirely brand-new franchises. The most intriguing potential spin-off is a “Star Wars Sith” game, where players control a Sith rather than a Jedi, though there are plenty of other options. It would also be interesting if Respawn were to revamp the entire Star Wars Jedi series as “Star Wars Sith” to depict Cal as a Sith rather than a Jedi in each story. It’s certainly a golden opportunity that the developer shouldn’t pass up.

Star Wars Jedi’s Title Could Shift According to Cal’s Role

One of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor‘s biggest moments is when Cal Kestis begins experimenting with the Dark Side of the Force after learning of Bode’s plan. Then, shortly after Cal defeats Bode, he picks up his former friend’s red lightsaber and activates it. The red glow from the weapon bathes Cal, seemingly suggesting either a dark future ahead of him, revealing the darkness already inside him, or both. It has been teased since Jedi: Fallen Order that Cal could eventually find his way over to the Dark Side, and this is where Star Wars Jedi‘s title comes into play.

It would also be interesting if Respawn were to revamp the entire

series as “Star Wars Sith” to depict Cal as a Sith rather than a Jedi in each story.

Should Cal ever turn to the Dark Side, the series could then be called “Star Wars Sith” as a result. In fact, perhaps that’s the whole reason Respawn has chosen to go with this naming scheme in the first place — to leave the door open to possibilities as the overarching narrative continues to evolve. Obviously, the hope is that Cal will resist the Dark Side, though it could make for a rather compelling game to place in the shoes of one who was once good and has since succumbed to the darkness.

It’s unclear whether Respawn so named the Star Wars Jedi series because it has other plans for it in the future. After all, it could be inconsequential, as the title of the classic Star Wars Jedi Knight series never changed throughout its initial six-year run. Still, it would be interesting to see Respawn take advantage of this notion and run with it. There is too much potential there to simply ignore it. Time will tell, however, whether Cal embraces the Dark Side and the franchise’s title changes as a result.
