The Best Deck for Grand Master

Here’s how the cards in the deck synergize:

  • Odin and Grand Master retrigger On Reveal effects of other booster cards like Silver Surfer.
  • Silver Surfer buffs Three-Cost cards—especially Brood and Broodlings—on the board.
  • Ebony Maw and Armor protect the middle lane.
  • Forge, Ironheart, Mister Fantastic, and Sebastian Shaw are alternative buffs.
  • Sera drops the Cost of the final turn attackers.
  • Mystique is a Joker card to copy Grand Master’s ability.

Play Ebony Maw to the middle lane at the start of the game to gain initiative.

How to Play Grand Master

grandmaster in marvel comics.

There are two strategies for handling the Grand Master: an early-game boost or a late-game surprise attack. If you opt for an early Grand Master play, you can later reuse his ability using cards like Odin and reap its benefits again. Alternatively, if you save him for the final round, you can combine him with a powerful card, catching your opponent off guard by rearranging card positions.

Here are some possible combos:

  • Grand Master into Mystique and Odin. Dropping Grand Master on turn two allows you to follow up with Mystique on turn three. Subsequently, by placing Odin into their locations, you can replicate the Grand Master’s effect twice—because you basically have two Grand Masters there.
  • Sera into Grand Master and Odin. Play Sera on turn five to have a One-Cost Grand Master and Five-Cost Odin for the last round.
  • Brood and Silver Surfer into Grand Master. With this basic combo, you will get three 6-Power Brood variants on the board. (All you need to do is hit Silver Surfer with Grand Master.)

When playing Grand Master, have two things in mind: First, he must be played to the left or right lanes, not the middle lane. Second, the middle location must have at least one empty slot for his effect to trigger.

How to Counter Grand Master

As an On Reveal option, a standard counter for Grand Master is Cosmo. However, it’s also a smart move to secure the middle lane with Professor X before Grand Master has the chance to redirect cards there.

Is Grand Master Worth It?
