Where to Find Squirtle (Indigo Disk)

Squirtle is the Water-type starter Pokemon for most Pokemon games that take place in Kanto, such as Pokemon

Red/Blue and Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen. Unlike its Grass/Poison-type and Fire-type counterparts, Bulbasaur and Charmander, fully-evolved Squirtle does not gain dual-typing, remaining a Water-type Pokemon from start to end. Despite this, it’s still capable of non-Water type moves, such as Ice Beam, in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

You’ll need to catch a Squirtle and its evolutions if you plan on filling out the Blueberry Pokedex in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet‘s Indigo Disk DLC. You can catch a wild Squirtle in Indigo Disk’s Terarium, but only if you have enough Blueberry Points (BP) at the Unova region’s Blueberry Academy.

Where to Find Squirtle in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Canyon Biome in Terarium

You’ll need the Indigo Disk DLC to gain access to Terarium, and then you’ll need to make sure you have the following stories completed:

  • “Starfall Street”
  • “Victory Road”
  • “Path of Legends”
  • * “The Way Home”
  • Kitakami/Teal Mask story

Squirtle spawns in the southern waters of the Canyon Biome in Terarium after you’ve contributed 3000BP to upgrading the Canyon Biome, which can be done at the League Club in Blueberry Academy. BP, or Blueberry Points, are a currency exclusive to Blueberry Academy that can be used for various means in the Indigo Disk. For the starter Pokemon to appear in Terarium, you will want to contribute these BPs to the environmental clubs at Blueberry Academy.

BPs are gained from completing Blueberry Quests, or BBQs for short. These tasks are assigned to you after completing your first class in Terarium. Unfortunately, this is the only way of getting BPs, so you’ll need to complete a lot of BBQs before you can get the 3000 for expanding the Canyon Biome.

* While you can go to Terarium before starting “The Way Home”, you won’t be able to progress the story of Indigo Disk until after you’ve been to Area Zero the first time. Instead, you’ll be locked off before you can meet up with Carmine in Terarium, and to gain access to the League Club, you will need to battle Carmine.

You can, however, do BBQs so long as you complete your first class in the Coastal Biome. Thus, it’s possible to farm BPs before progressing the Indigo Disk storyline.

Once you have 3000BP, do the following:

  1. Fly to the Entrance of Blueberry Academy.
  2. Go to the gates, and choose League Club.
  3. Access the computer in the League Club, and scroll down to Canyon Biome.
  4. Once the 3000BP have been contributed, fly to Terarium and search the waters in the southern area of Canyon Biome.

Since Squirtle tends to spawn in the water, you can use Dive Balls to catch them. These have a higher catch modifier if used on a Pokemon that’s “in the water.”

How to Transfer Squirtle with Pokemon HOME

If you don’t have the expansion pass for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, then you can get Squirtle by trading or transferring. To trade, you will need a Nintendo Online Membership; to transfer, you will need to link your Nintendo Account to Pokemon HOME.

  • Trading can be done by joining/creating a Group in the Union Circle. Once you’ve connected via the Union Circle, access the Poke Portal in the pause menu (X-button), then go down to Link Trade to Set Code and trade with someone else.
  • Transferring requires you to link your Nintendo Account using the Pokemon HOME app on Switch

Squirtle can be transferred from the following games:

  • * Pokemon GO
  • Pokemon Sword/Shield (Isle of Armor DLC)
  • Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
  • Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Eevee!

If you’re planning on sending Squirtle from Pokemon GO to Pokemon HOME, then you will need to link your GO account to your Nintendo Account in Pokemon GO‘s settings. After this, you can go back into GO‘s Settings, then Connected Devices and Services to send Squirtle to Pokemon HOME.

How to Evolve Squirtle & Wartortle into Blastoise

What Level Does Squirtle Evolve?

Squirtle evolves into Wartortle when it reaches level 16. When Wartortle reaches level 36, it will evolve into Blastoise. If you’re catching a Squirtle in Indigo Disk, then its level will be in the late-50s to mid-60s. Since it will be way beyond its evolution level, you’ll need to level up Squirtle once to make it evolve, then once more (after it becomes Wartortle) to get Blastoise. A quick way to level up a Squirtle from the Canyone Biome is to feed it a Rare Candy or Exp. Candy.
