Open-World Horror Survival Game May Come From Lords of the Fallen Developer

CI Games, the developer behind Lords of the Fallen, might be venturing into new territory with an open-world survival horror game. While the project remains officially unannounced, recent job postings on the CI Games website hint at its development. Evidence for the game’s horror theme stems from several job descriptions.

The job listings found by veryaligaming say that Unreal Engine 5 will be the main engine for this new project. There should also be a focus on melee combat, which is not unusual for horror games. RPG elements like weapon leveling and character builds were also mentioned, which makes us wonder if this is just a new take on horror.

The role of combat designer supposedly says, “You’ll be joining the team on an ambitious and original open world survival game with a horror thematic. We’re putting a unique twist on the formula, both in mechanics and the environmental challenges we set for the player. Visual quality is paramount, so we’re building in Unreal Engine 5.”

The Senior Technical Artist position was claimed to be looking for someone familiar with “horror environments.” The job of an Economy Designer seemingly implied monetization strategies, potentially microtransactions. References to “weapon levelling” and “character builds” in the same role hint at RPG mechanics, while the requirement for experience in “1st/3rd person melee combat design” points towards close-quarters action.

While the job descriptions supposedly mentioned “multi-platform development” and “cooperative gameplay,” it’s unclear if these elements apply to the open-world survival horror game or another project. A separate listing for a DevOps Engineer mentions working on an “ambitious and original multiplayer FPS in Unreal Engine 5,” which does not help us understand the rest. As most of the jobs were taken down when we got there, we could only confirm the DevOps engineer job, which required an FPS experience and didn’t include much information about what the rest of the team was doing.

It’s important to note that CI Games hasn’t formally acknowledged the existence of this open-world horror survival game. All available information comes from job postings, which can be subject to change or interpretation. Until an official announcement is made, we must take all of this with a grain of salt.
