“He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape,” Aniston tearfully told her fellow Morning Show co-star in a conversation for Variety’s Emmys edition.

“I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty,” Aniston said. “He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy … I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.”

After sharing a joint statement saying they were “utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew” following his death on Oct. 28 at age 54, Perry’s Friends co-stars who also included David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow took to social media to post individual salutes to the late actor.

Perry, who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for much of his life, was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles-area home on Oct. 28. His cause of death was attributed to the lethal effects of the anesthetic ketamine.

The five-time Emmy nominee was reportedly “receiving ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety,” according to USA Today.

In his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry wrote about using ketamine “to ease pain and help with depression.”

“It was something different, and anything different is good,” Perry wrote [per Us Weekly]. “Taking K is like being hit in the head with a giant happy shovel. But the hangover was rough and outweighed the shovel.”

Adding that the infusions made him feel as if he were dying, Perry detailed his struggle with the drug.

“‘Oh,’ I thought, ‘This is what happens when you die,’” Perry wrote. “Yet I would continually sign up for this s*** because it was something different, and anything different is good.”

Ultimately, Perry told readers: “Ketamine was not for me.”
