How to Make Ancient Vacuum & How it Works

In Disney Dreamlight Valley’s A Rift in Time expansion, players are introduced to an all-new tool, the Royal Hourglass, which offers a treasure-hunting technique called Timebending. This feature allows for the collection of Mist, an expansion-exclusive currency akin to Dreamlight, and other resources essential for crafting fun new items and unlocking new areas in Eternity Isle for players to explore.

The expansion also introduces the Timebending Table, a unique crafting station where players can utilize materials gathered through Timebending. Among the innovative items available for crafting are Ancient Machines, designed to automate certain aspects of Dreamlight Valley’s gameplay in exchange for Mist.

The Ancient Vacuum is one of these three special devices added in the expansion. Players can automate specific tasks throughout the Valley by placing Ancient Machines and fueling their actions with Mist. Here’s what players need to find to craft the Ancient Vacuum along with extensive details about this strange new device’s functionality in Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time.

How to Craft the Ancient Vacuum

Crafting an Ancient Vacuum in Disney Dreamlight Valley

During the quest “The Sands in the Hourglass,” players are introduced to their first Timebending Table, located in the Secluded Beach of Ancient’s Landing. This table allows players to convert materials they’ve gathered via Timebending with the Royal Hourglass into various items, such as royal tool upgrades, Scramblecoin pieces, along with other helpful items, including the powerful Ancient Machines.

There are three Ancient Machines that players are able to craft at the Timebending Table: the Ancient Cooker, Ancient Gardener, and Ancient Vacuum. Each device requires specific parts discovered during Timebending including Ancient Cores. Ancient Cores are rarer than the regular Timebending Parts, and can be found only after upgrading the Royal Hourglass. Here are the steps players need to complete to build an Ancient Vacuum in A Rift in Time.

Upgrade the Royal Hourglass to Level 1

Upgrading the Royal Hourglass in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The first tier Ancient Machines require Ancient Core (Level 1), and the player will need to upgrade the Royal Hourglass to Level 1 before they can collect this material. Upgrading the Hourglass requires 5000 Mist, a new currency primarily obtained via Timebending and completing Mist Duties. Once the player has enough Mist, they need to visit the Timebending Table to upgrade the Royal Hourglass to Level 1.

All Ancient Machines require Ancient Cores to craft, and players will need to first upgrade the Royal Hourglass to Level 1 before they can find Ancient Cores. There are three tiers of Ancient Cores (Level 1 to Level 3), and the player must upgrade the Hourglass to the corresponding level before that level’s Ancient Core can be discovered via Timebending.

Gather Materials via Timebending

Once the player’s Royal Hourglass has been upgraded, they now have a chance to receive Ancient Core (Level 1) when Timebending for treasure. These materials are rarer than other Timebending treasures. To craft the Basic Ancient Vacuum, the player should gather the following items by Timebending on Eternity Isle and the Valley:

  • 2000 Mist
  • 3 Ancient Magnet
  • 3 Ancient Belt
  • 2 Ancient Core (Level 1)

Once players have obtained the materials, they should head to the Timebending Table and select the “Ancient Machine” category. There are three versions of each Ancient Machine that can be crafted: Basic, Regular, and Advanced. Higher-level Ancient Machines offer improved functionality and require the lower-level version of the machine as part of the crafting materials. These also necessitate different tiers of Ancient Cores, obtainable only with additional upgrades to the Royal Hourglass. The materials needed to craft each tier of Ancient Machines are:

How to Use the Ancient Vacuum

How to use Ancient Vacuum

The Ancient Vacuum is an extremely helpful device that has the ability to automatically collect materials in a biome. The Ancient Vacuum can be placed in any biome from the Furniture menu. Here’s how to use the Ancient Vacuum:

  1. Interact with the Ancient Vacuum. It will display a list with an icon for each item capable of being auto-collected. The icon will feature a number indicating how many of that item is available to be collected in the biome.
  2. Select the item you wish to vacuum. A prompt will appear allowing you to choose how many of that item to auto-collect. This will affect the required Mist cost, displayed on the button in the bottom right corner.
  3. Once you have selected the number of items you wish to vacuum, click on the Collect button in the bottom right corner, consuming the Mist cost displayed and automatically collect those items (or, in the case of Ephemerals, clear Night Thorns or Splinters of Fate).
  4. Items collected via the Ancient Vacuum will appear in the player’s inventory.

Within the Valley, the Ancient Machine will scan the entirety of the biome for items it can collect. However, when placed in biomes on Eternity Isle, additional placement and scans will be necessary to collect items found in different areas within the same biome. For instance, players need to place the Ancient Vacuum in The Oasis to gather items specific to that area. However, to collect from The Borderlands, they must position or use an Ancient Vacuum in that area, too.

What Can Each Ancient Vacuum Auto-Collect

Clearing Night Thorns with the Ancient Vacuum in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Each different tier of the Ancient Vacuum is capable of auto-collecting certain types of items. When interacting with the Ancient Vacuum, the list of items displayed will include only those available in that biome. For example, even though Regular or Advanced machines can collect Mint, it won’t appear in the list unless the machine is placed in the Frosted Heights biome.

Basic Ancient Vacuum – Collects Ephemerals

The Basic Ancient Vacuum is limited to collecting Ephemerals, which include Night Thorns in the Valley and Splinters of Fate on Eternity Isle. The player can place the Ancient Vacuum in a biome and interact with it, and it will immediately show the number of these objects which can currently be cleared from the biome. Selecting to clear these objects

Regular Ancient Vacuum – Collects Ephemerals, wild crops, and flowers

The Regular Ancient Vacuum can collect two additional categories of items: wild crops, which include only ingredients which can be foraged from the ground, and flowers. Again, the player must interact with the Ancient Vacuum and select which items they wish to collect, paying 10 Mist per item vacuumed.

The Ancient Vacuum’s “wild crops” category includes only those ingredients growing on the ground, including Mushrooms and herbs such as Oregano and Mint. The Ancient Vacuum cannot forage materials that grow on bushes or trees.

Advanced Ancient Vacuum – Collects all activity items

The final upgraded version of the Ancient Vacuum can gather the most types of items. The term “activity items” in the in-game description refers to any items dropped or naturally occurring on the ground. The Advanced Ancient Vacuum has the capability to automatically collect items from previous machine tiers and can also gather items dropped by the player or otherwise left uncollected, like yields from mineral veins or extra vegetables from a Gardening companion. Additionally, it is capable of collecting wood, unlike its preceding version.
