Microsoft has fixed a bug affecting some players within the Insiders Program where gamers could lose progress in certain games when using the beta version of the Xbox OS. The team at Xbox regularly rolls out software updates to Xbox Series X/S owners to ensure the latest generation of consoles are in peak condition.

The Insider Program gives Xbox players the chance to participate in beta tests for certain productions from Microsoft, usually getting an advanced look at system updates or exclusive Beta tests for first-party games. The program is free to join but offers different tiers and benefits to players who use the Xbox ecosystem regularly and “level up” through the ranks.

Xbox Head Phil Spencer Shares His Year in Review Stats, and They’re Impressive

Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, reveals his Xbox Year in Review summary, and he’s racked up some impressive play time.

Posting on the official Xbox website, the company has stated the team has identified and fixed an issue with the latest OS update that caused the unexpected loss of save data with certain games when playing via Cloud Streaming. The company confirmed that the issue was seen for players on the Beta Ring level of the program, although the details of which games were affected haven’t been made available. Microsoft has taken steps to assure gamers the issue has now been resolved for those on the Beta Ring, although it has still encouraged users to log any issues directly through the site.

It is worth noting that the loss of save data only affects players who have subscribed to the Insider Program and the rest of the community will not experience this problem. Microsoft will only release the next Xbox software update once the major bugs have been squashed, although the timing of this news comes at an awkward time for Xbox. The company has recently had issues with the Xbox Live servers with gamers reporting problems shortly after the Fortnite Big Bang event took place on December 2. The whole Xbox Live network went down on December 6, temporarily stopping players from accessing online modes.

Thankfully for gamers, the servers returned quickly as players were looking to jump into Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Season 1, which coincidentally released the same day Xbox Live went offline. Activision, now under Microsoft ownership, has since confirmed players can experience the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer for free from December 14 until December 18.

It seems that the team at Microsoft is focusing on introducing new features and acting quickly to quash any issues that arise as part of these developments. The announcement that the issue has been identified and resolved will no doubt be a relief for players on the Insider Program as they continue to test the next Series X/S OS update.

  • Fixes to address an issue that could cause unexpected loss of saved progress in various titles.

System

  • Various stability and performance fixes.

Known Issues

We understand some issues have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes. These items aren’t being ignored, but it will take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution.

Audio

  • We have received reports of users experiencing intermittent issues with audio across the dashboard, games, and apps. If you have experienced issues, be sure you have the latest firmware updates for your TV and other equipment. If you’re unsure, you may need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.
    • Note: If you continue to experience issues after applying the latest firmware updates, please submit feedback via Report a Problem immediately with the “Reproduce with advanced diagnostics” option, then select the category “Console experiences” and “Console Audio Output Issues”. Be sure to include as much information as possible:
      • When did the issue start?
      • Did you lose audio just in the game/app or system audio as well?
      • Does changing the audio format resolve the issue? If yes, what was the format before and after?
      • Does rebooting resolve the issue?
      • What does your setup include? Equipment, layout, etc.
      • And any additional information you can provide to reproduce the problem.

Networking

  • We are investigating reports of an issue where the console may not connect to their network as expected on boot. If you experience this, be sure to report the issue via Report a Problem as soon as you’re able.
    • Workaround: Wait a minute for the connection to establish. If your console still hasn’t connected, restart your Xbox from the Power Center or the guide.
