The Best Early Game Persona In Persona 5 Tactica

Persona 5 Tactica does not skimp on the Personas that the Phantom Thieves can use during their missions with the introduction of Sub-Personas. They provide much-needed assistance to take out enemies with their amazing powers. But while Sub-Personas give each character stat buffs and unique abilities, their main Personas are still their go-to companion throughout the different phases of the missions.

Between the Phantom Thieves and their allies in the Rebel Corps, Persona 5 Tactica players have a wide cast to choose from, but not all are equal.

With seven main Personas available, which of them stand out during the early levels? Here are the best Persona players should use in the early game and will also help players familiarize themselves with the gameplay.

7 Milady

Hypnotic Enemy Attracter

Haru using Milady to lure and enemy out of Cover

Milady is Haru’s Persona that specializes in luring enemies towards her with her Psi attacks. This is an advanced method of tactical warfare in Persona 5 Tactica: the Cover system is essential gameplay, and using this on enemies under Cover is especially effective, such as the Musketeers and Accompaniment. Once out in the open, other Phantom Thieves can use their melee or Gun attacks to Down the enemies, and have an extra turn.

That said, players need to be careful when to use Milady and her abilities, since some enemies, like the Rampart and its many iterations, have an innate ability that allows them to jump across the terrain to get as close as they can to the last enemy that attacks it.

6 Captain Kidd

Electrifying Movement Stopper

Handicapping enemy movement is also an excellent tactic to employ during missions. Ryuji’s Captain Kidd is the Persona that specializes in immobilizing enemies with his electric attacks that inflict Shock status. Using electric attacks on melee units like the Rampart is effective as it hinders their movement following their jumping counterattack.

In some cases, hitting Musketeers with Captain Kidd’s electric attacks is beneficial to keep them in place while other Phantom Thieves take aim at them for a possible Down. Following this, the character who has an extra turn can move to a more advantageous area, line up with the other members, and perform an All-Out Attack that can strike enemies caught inside the deadly triangle.

5 Goemon

Stone Cold Action Stopper

Yusuke using one of Goemon's Freeze Attacks

Taking out an enemy’s ability to attack is another advanced tactic players can employ during their missions. Goemon, Yusuke’s Persona, excels in this regard: this Persona uses Ice abilities to Freeze enemies in place. Once frozen, enemies cannot perform attacks until the next turn.

Persona 5 Tactica: All Status Effects, Explained

Persona 5 Tactica has a number of status effects that both the player and the enemy can exploit to great effect, so here’s how they all work.

Using Goemon against dangerous enemies like Ramparts, Accompaniments, and Sumo-matons is effective since using Ice abilities on them will Freeze them at their location and will need to unfreeze during their turn. So long as Yusuke has the SP, players can continue Freezing high-priority enemies to render them useless. However, players need to remember not to attack Frozen enemies, since doing so will thaw them out and nullify the Freeze status.

4 Carmen

Tons of Fiery Damage

Ann using one of Carmen's Burn attacks

For players who want to deal massive damage on enemies, Carmen, Ann’s Persona, is the best one for the job. Utilizing Fire attacks, Carmen can bombard enemies with Fire damage and inflict Burn status effect on them. Enemies who get hit by Carmen’s Fire attacks are knocked back, leaving them open to getting Downed by follow-up attacks if they land on terrain that does not give them Cover.

Enemies with Burn status are damaged after their turn, making them easier to take out. That said, while Carmen’s Fire attacks can lay waste to early enemies, they do cost a lot of SP. It is important for players to determine when to use Carmen’s attacks to maximize her impact in missions.

3 Arsene

Devious Movement Stealer

Joker using Arsene's Despair attack on a group of enemies

Players who are still new to the tactical nature of Persona 5 Tactica can get more acquainted with the positioning strategy thanks to Arsene. As Joker’s main Persona, Arsene’s Despair attacks siphon the movement spaces of enemies that are afflicted with the Despair status and bestow it to Joker.

Using Arsene’s attacks on clumped-up enemies is exceptionally advantageous since it will siphon all movement spaces that are afflicted with Despair. For a more advanced strategy, hitting enemies out of Cover with Arsene will drastically improve Joker’s movement on the battlefield, which allows him to get in the right place to execute a devastating All-Out Attack on multiple targets.

2 Johanna

Dangerous Vacuum

Makoto's Johanna using a Vortex attack

Persona 5 Tactica’s early stages see players contend with enemies who take Cover to avoid getting Downed. To deal with the pesky enemies, Johanna, Makoto’s main Persona, can be called upon to force them out of their Cover.

Persona 5 Tactica: Trophy Roadmap

Getting the Platinum Trophy in Persona 5 Tactica requires players to unleash a highly damaging attack and amass a great deal of money, so here’s how.

Johanna’s Vortex abilities suck in enemies towards the middle of the spells’ cast range. Using this on a group of enemies will severely put them in a disadvantageous position, especially if they land in a space that doesn’t provide Cover for them. This makes enemies sitting ducks for the rest of the Phantom Thieves to knock them down for a devastating All-Out Attack.

1 Zorro

Strong Gale Force Wind

Morgana's Zorro using a Garu attack on an enemy

Morgana is the resident mascot of the Persona 5 games. While he is usually on the sidelines in other titles, in Persona 5 Tactica, Morgana is arguably one of the strongest characters thanks to his Persona, Zorro.

Zorro is adept at displacing enemies with his Gale attacks that inflict Sweep on enemies hit. This is extremely effective for pushing away enemies from their Cover as well as a defensive tool to provide space against enemies who are getting too close to the other Phantom Thieves. Zorro’s abilities offer excellent synergy with the other Phantom Thieves, so long as they can hit the Sweep-stricken enemies with their follow-up attacks.
