Ex-DICE Staffers’ FPS The Finals Likely to Launch During the Game Awards, Leak Suggests

It seems that the release date for upcoming FPS The Finals has been leaked, and if the leak is to be believed, a reveal could be imminent at today’s Game Awards ceremony.

Someone at developer Embark Studios or publisher Nexon apparently accidentally released an image exhorting players to “PLAY NOW!” a few hours ago, suggesting that The Finals could be launching today or tomorrow.

The image was spotted on the game’s official Discord, and moderators were apparently deleting instances of said image wherever they could, but not quickly enough for the image not to appear on Reddit multiple times thereafter.

Whoops. Image courtesy of Reddit user BreadandWaterforme.

In the leaked image, Embark and Nexon promise the ability to “crash through walls and ceilings, destroy anything and everything in sight, and build bridges and barricades” in the game.

The legend “PLAY NOW!” appears at the bottom of the image, along with the three platforms on which The Finals will be available: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Steam.

Curiously enough, Xbox Series S isn’t listed, although the game will also be coming to that console, so don’t worry if you’re a Series S owner.

The Game Awards 2023 is set to air later tonight, and games like Baldur’s Gate 3Alan Wake 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are all up for awards.

The proximity of the accidental release of this leaked The Finals image to the Game Awards ceremony, which often also contains reveals and trailers for games, suggests that the release date for the game could be revealed today.

Of course, none of this has been officially announced, so we’ll likely have to wait for the ceremony in order to know for sure. Still, if you’re hyped for The Finals, it might be time to start getting excited now.

The Finals is currently set to launch “soon” for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Watch this space for more news on this and all other things Game Awards.
