Star Citizen Is Getting Really Impressive Hair Tech Soon

The Alpha 3.22 version of Star Citizen is currently being tested by part of the community, and the first videos and images are filtering through showing some really impressive hair technology.

The tech was teased at Citizencon, but now we get to see it fully implemented in the hands of players, and it looks really impressive.

Hair has always been one of the weak points of Star Citizen‘s presentation and it’s never too detailed in online games. Looks like Cloud Imperium Games has achieved results that have eluded even many developers of single-player games.

Below you can see several videos published by players who have access to the public test servers, starting with one showcasing the new hair in the character creation recorded by Mozza The Kiwi.

A second video by Fulguro Geek shows both the character creation and the hair in-game.

The third video recorded by CarbonPixel, is just a bit more playful, showing how the hair behaves if you’ve had a bit too much to drink.

In other Star Citizen news, the game’s crowdfunding campaign has passed $650 million, and it’s now at $650,836,218, while the game counts 4,964,355 registered users. Of course, not all are paying customers, since many simply register an account to try Star Citizen during the many free fly events.

Star Citizen is creatively directed by Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts. It has been in development for over a year achieving many technical breakthroughs and you can check out a recent and rather impressive tech demo showing its promise. That being said, it has no full release date yet.

A cinematic single-player campaign titled Squadron 42, is also coming, and CIG recently announced that it’s feature-complete. It’s enriched by a star-studded cast including Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Gary Oldman, John Rhys-Davies, and more.

Full disclosure: the author of this post backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
