  • A God of War fan discovered a sealed USB flash drive shaped like Kratos’ Blades of Chaos, sparking interest among other fans.
  • The USB drive was created by a Toronto-based company and licensed by PlayStation, and it came in 8 GB and 16 GB versions.
  • While the storage capacity may not be much, the niche collectible holds value for fans, and speculation arises about when Kratos will wield the Blades of Chaos again.

A God of War fan took to social media to share a blast from the past, as they rediscovered a USB flash drive shaped like one of Kratos’ iconic Blades of Chaos that was still sealed in its original packaging, and shared a picture as proof. The post drew attention from other God of War fans, who asked both how much the USB drive was worth, and if the owner recalled how they got it.

As one of the most iconic weapons in video game history, the Blades of Chaos are intrinsically tied to Kratos as a character. Made with the intent of serving the former and titular God of War, Ares, the Blades of Chaos were given and chained to Kratos’ wrists, which permanently seared his skin. Nevertheless, Kratos was able to use the blades to lay waste to hordes of foes. Though Kratos became known for using other weapons, such as the Leviathan Axe in the Norse saga, he kept the Blades of Chaos hidden away as a sign of penance for his deeds. However, Kratos eventually digs them up to protect Atreus and live up to his reputation as the Ghost of Sparta.

A God of War fan is still reeling in disbelief at how poorly their clay Kratos sculpture turned out, much to the fandom’s amusement.

Though the Blades of Chaos have been replicated by fans over two decades, one God of War fan rediscovered one variation of them. On Reddit, a user named FireCubX posted a picture of the God of War USB Drive on the r/GodOfWar subreddit. The USB drive was still sealed in its tamper-evident packaging, with a capacity of 8 GB. Created by a Toronto-based company named HipStreet and licensed by PlayStation, the God of War USB drive was created around the time that God of War 3 was sold in stores in the early 2010s.

According to a YouTube video released by HipStreet, the USB drive came in 8 GB and 16 GB versions, and the USB plug was located towards the tip of the blade. By sliding off the protective cover, users could then plug the drive into a PC or other compatible device to suit their needs. As one of the best games in the God of War series, it stands to reason why God of War 3 received its share of licensed merchandise during its release window. In the comments, the OP was asked by other fans how many offers they received for the USB drive.

Though 8 GB is not a lot of storage space, the fact that such a niche God of War collectible exists is a testament to its value. As God of War fans brace for news at The Game Awards on December 7, only time will tell when Kratos will wield the Blades of Chaos again.
