As can be said with many federal NDP leaders, Ed Broadbent was the right man with the wrong party.
Article content
Unfortunately for Broadbent and his supporters, the NDP socialist moniker was like an albatross around his neck, and this would become a party that most Canadians could not trust. They could not come to grips with allowing the NDP to become a ruling power at this time. That’s not to say he did not distinguish himself with an air of prestige and political acumen.
Broadbent will be remembered as a quality politician who was trusted by all those who looked beyond his party’s socialist dogma and left-wing leanings. A great man, politician and Canadian, he will be missed.

CUT TO THE CHASE
It’s time again for the surgeon analogy. Let’s say you have a serious heart problem that requires triple-bypass surgery. You have the option of two surgeons: A or B.
Article content
Surgeon A is a great guy who has been around for a long time. Everybody loves him and he gets along great with everyone. However, his success rate for heart surgery is only around 35 to 40 per cent.
Surgeon B is annoying and has a loud, obnoxious and rude personality. A lot of people don’t like him and would prefer he wasn’t around. But his success rate for heart surgery is around 95 to 99 per cent.
So in closing, I ask, which surgeon would you select? Which one best describes Joe Biden and which one best describes Donald Trump?

WASTE OF OUR MONEY
Green markings for bikes at the intersections: just wondering who the genius at city hall was who came up this idea. My current observation is that these green patches have been ripped to shreds by snowplows, since we seem to have winter snow and ice in our part of the world.
What a brilliant waste of our tax dollars. Will they all be redone when winter is over? Thank you, City of Ottawa

ALL FOR SPEED CAMERAS
Contrary to other letter writers, I’m all for speed cameras in important areas. If nothing will stop the self-entitled speeders, then get their money and use it for the common good!
Speed cameras have worked well in Calgary and other cities, but, hey, Ottawa is the entitled city so no surprise it may not work here.
Show us the money.
