FEELING SORRY FOR BIDEN

I felt sorry for U.S. President Joe Biden, a hot topic all over the world and very worrisome for the Democratic party. There’s plenty of debate about replacing him. In a similar fashion, after a byelection loss in Toronto, the Liberals are wondering what to do. The only difference is that, in the U.S., it needs to be done urgently.

I would prefer Pete Buttigieg as the Democrat nominee; he is well qualified and well spoken, and very young, and he would have huge followers. Buttigieg-Harris would be a winning team.

Here in Canada, I would say Sean Fraser, Marc Miller or Mélanie Joly as successors to Justin Trudeau, but we have time before the next election.

There should not be second debate between Donald Trump and Biden; the first debate proved beyond reasonable doubt that they will never be friends.

POLITICIANS NOT LISTENING

Re: Council OKs secret settlements over Stage 2 LRT construction, online, June 25

No sooner is there a spotlight on harassment and threats towards politicians then taxpayers hear about “secret deals” being made by the city. While I don’t condone violence towards anyone, politicians need to wake up and realize that it’s their decisions and policies that are a big reason for the frustration of taxpayers.

Politicians are not listening. According to the “motion,” details are not to be reported publicly because they relate to solicitor-client and settlement privilege. Interesting, seeing as the taxpayer is the client. We have a right to know.

Far too often, we are being told we don’t need or have a right to know for the lamest of reasons. We pay the bills, we are the ones who end up paying higher and higher taxes to cover them, and we are the ones who suffer because that money could have been better used for things such as health care, education, etc.

Elected officials, even unelected ones, no longer serve the public and the public is beginning to let them know in any way they can. Threats and harassment would no doubt drop dramatically if taxpayers and their money were treated with more respect.

GREELY

CATCH AND RELEASE

How long before our police simply give up arresting criminals? As it is now, they arrest them, only to watch them being released the next day, and they then have to repeat the never-ending process. Changes are drastically required. What Canadians want is less BS and more worthwhile action.
