If you’re waiting for the release of the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 to jump into one of the most beloved games of the year, you’re not getting a release date today, but the next best thing.

As teased earlier this week, Larian Studios provided more information in a brief post on X (formerly Twitter).

We learn that the port is on track for a December release, but we’ll have to wait for The Game Awards to see the world premiere and hear the specific release date.

If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on Xbox users getting a Christmas gift (only, they need to pay for it) around that timeframe. Of course, this is just my speculation.

The timing of the announcement is pretty fitting, considering that Baldur’s Gate 3 is leading the nominations at The Game Awards alongside Alan Wake 2. Larian’s RPG is in the running for a whopping 8 trophies, including the covered Game of the Year award.

It’s worth reminding that the Xbox port of the game was initially teased a while go with the mention that it was held back by the problem with making split screen co-op on Xbox Series S work properly. Th solution adopted was simply removing the feature on the console, while it’ll still be present on Series X

Incidentally, yesterday CEO Swen Vincke teased the studio’s next game on X.

This is a real honor, especially in a year with so many releases. Seeing our little “niche rpg” make such waves is very motivating. I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries. I’m very excited about it.

Larian has a rich history of RPG development, so it’ll be interesting to see whether that next game will stick to the genre that made the studio popular.

If you’re wondering why fans appreciate Balrdur’s Gate 3 so much, look no further than our enthusiastic review, which awarded the game with a 9.5 out of 10. The game also won the Game of the Year award and several more at the Golden Joystick Awards.
