The X-Men mutants joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been long-awaited by fans. However, they might have to wait a little longer to see their beloved villain turned anti-hero, Magneto, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has separate plans for the character.

First appearing in Marvel Comics’ X-Men #4 in March 1964, The Brotherhood of Mutants, led by Magneto, devote themselves to being mutant supremacists over normal humans. While going through various incarnations, the supervillains originally included mutants like Toad, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Blob, and Mastermind, with others joining in later editions. One version of The Brotherhood first appeared in Fox’s original X-Men in 2000, which consisted of Magneto, Toad, Mystique, and Sabretooth as a terrorist group planning to use a conversion machine to turn humans into mutants.

As claimed by Daniel Richtman, Feige’s new idea to focus a film on Magneto, the classic hero that blurs the line between good and evil, comes after Richtman also announced a few days prior that Mister Sinister will take the helm as the main villain for the planned female-focused X-Men reboot. This would explain the absence of Erik Lehnsherr, a.k.a. Magneto, with Feige proving that he wants this new entry to stand out. However, with production just taking way post-WGA strikes, it is still too early to tell what exactly will unfold in the new story and what heroes are expected to make their grand entrance. Instead, fans will first have to see what the new Fantastic Four has in store for viewers, as they are expected to tie into the Multiverse Saga.

As for more mutant appearances, Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds, will include Hugh Jackman reprising his X-Men role as Wolverine, set to release July 26, 2024. It won’t be the first Marvel Studios movie to incorporate characters from the original Fox Studios film, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier. However, it’ll continue shaking up the MCU continuity as fans know it for the X-Men, as the Multiverse Saga sets the stage for the mutants’ reinvention.

In response to X-Men Updates sharing Richtman’s news on X (formerly Twitter), fans have shown delighted reactions to the possibility of a good vs. evil parallel between the new X-Men‘s mutants and The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. This announcement will allow people to devise their desires for what heroes or villains they want to see in either movie and theorize on their eventual crossovers with each other and other acclaimed MCU superheroes. As steam has seemed to run out for the Avengers, the reintroduction of Magneto and the X-Men lights a new spark for diehard fans in anticipation of a new mutant saga.

X-Men movies are available to watch on Disney Plus.
