Black Myth: Wukong – Monkeying Around
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG based on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West. We’ve seen the classic story in gaming before, but Wukong is happy to place its inspiration front and center as you take the role of the stone monkey himself. Developed by Game Science, this game has made a big impact in a sea of dark fantasy Souls-esque games, and it’s not hard to see why.
The game is a gorgeous-looking, fast-fighting, no-hand-holding dive into mythology. Think of it as Dark Souls meets Chinese folklore, with a protagonist who can transform into various animals to defeat his enemies.
The combat is the main course of this elegantly presented meal, with all kinds of terrifying bosses lurking out in the world, ready to get schooled by monkey kung fu, but it’s not all about the battles. The game is an impressive artistic work in itself, with chapters marked through some impressive, fully animated shorts that could stand on their own without a whole game attached.
If you enjoy an epic story, love to explore, but also want to get your hands dirty in some challenging combat, then Black Myth: Wukong is a journey to the West you should take.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – Certified Not Heresy
What’s the opposite of an agile, light-footed monkey man? An eight-foot-tall walking tank of a marine in innumerable layers of armor. Yup, it’s time to pick up your bolters and be ready to die for The Emperor in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
Developed by Saber Interactive, this game is the long-awaited sequel to the 2011 cult classic Space Marine. There aren’t many 40K fans who’ve not fantasized at least a little bit about stomping through hordes of xeno monsters and dealing Imperium-sanctioned death as humanity’s biggest boys.
Now you can, in more crunchy detail than ever before.
The combat in Space Marine 2 focuses on delivering a visceral, over-the-top experience. Every swing of your chain sword and every blast from your bolter feels powerful, as it should given your status as a living weapon. It’s a more vividly realized grimdark future than ever before. We’d hesitate to ever call the 40K world ‘pretty’, it’s not really that kind of world, but it’s definitely striking, and absolutely goes hard.
But it’s not just about mindless action. Even the Astartes can’t win on brute strength alone. Space Marine 2 brings tactics into play. You need to think on your feet and adapt to the ever-changing conditions of the battlefield. Fight smarter, as well as harder if you want to do The Emperor proud.
