World of Warcraft announced that they would be rereleasing the Ghastly Charger TCG mount as a Twitch Drop.
Once upon a time, before Hearthstone was a thing, there was a physical TCG (Trading Card Game). Some cards came with scratch-off codes that could be redeemed in-game for exclusive loot. The game vanished in 2013 to make way for Hearthstone, and with it any chance of getting the loot except via resellers.
But, in a push against FOMO and exclusivity, WoW is offering the Ghastly Charger as an award in an upcoming Twitch Drop event. Some players are split on if it’s a good thing to undermine the mount’s rarity, which to be fair according to the site wowtcgloot it’s currently selling for over $1300 USD. Others, including one player who has the even more rare Spectral Tiger considers it not a big deal.
Personally, I think a happy medium would be to give original owners a special Feat of Strength Achievement with a title, allowing players to express their style with a mount they like, while giving players fixated on rarity something to distinguish themselves. Here’s hoping the Magic Rooster mount is next.
World of Warcraft is available on Microsoft Windows (through Battle.net). The newest expansion The War Within is set to release later this month.
