Apple Arcade-exclusive hack-and-slash game World of Demons is to be delisted later this month, developer PlatinumGames has revealed. No reason for the game’s delisting was given.
In a rather short blog post, the developer thanks players who have enjoyed the game since it launched in 2021 and provides a brief schedule of what’s going to happen next.
First, on January 18th, World of Demons will no longer be available for download via Apple Arcade, which is currently the only way to play the game.
Following that, on February 1st, you won’t be able to play World of Demons even if you’ve downloaded it already.
Given that World of Demons isn’t available anywhere else, this means the game will effectively vanish, unless PlatinumGames has plans to relaunch it somewhere else in future.
World of Demons was unveiled back in 2018, but was extensively reworked prior to its eventual April 2021 launch.
It was originally revealed as a free-to-play mobile game, but was eventually transformed into a premium Apple Arcade title, meaning players could only play the game if they had a subscription to Apple’s gaming service.
As far as we know, there are no plans to release World of Demons on any other platforms, but we’ve reached out to PlatinumGames for clarification on this and will update as soon as we hear anything back.
This isn’t the only game that’s seeing the end of its service soon, either.
Just a few days ago, Sony delisted Gran Turismo Sport from the PlayStation Store, seemingly without warning, and back in November last year, the EA-published multiplayer shooter Rocket Arena met a similar fate.
Sometimes, games are delisted due to behind-the-scenes issues like licensing problems or DRM headaches, but these don’t appear to be issues that World of Demons is facing.
Stay tuned for more info on this as soon as we get it.
