Winnipeg-Toronto 4:6

Nino Niederreiter, 1 shot, 3 checks, 3:07 PM TOI

The Winnipeg Jets suffered their first NHL loss of the season after eight wins. The team led by Nino Niederreiter lost 4:6 at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs beat the Jets for the sixth consecutive time. Toronto has won five of the last three seasons. The Jets last had success three years ago. With this loss, the Jets missed an opportunity to preserve NHL history.

One more win and they would be one step away from the league record. 21 years ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs started the season with 10 wins among all teams. Thirteen years later, the Buffalo Sabers staged the same series in the regular season. It was clear early on that nothing was going to happen as this successful series continued. The Maple Leafs scored two goals in the first 3 and a half minutes of the second quarter, extending the lead to 4-0.

The Jets cut their lead to 4-5 in the third quarter, but Canadian John Tavares ended their hopes with an empty-net goal 25 seconds before the final buzzer, his first of the night. Three goals. Tavares' compatriot William Nylander and American Max Pacioretty also scored three points for the Maple Leafs. Niederreiter, who has been involved in scoring in the past four games, did not score a point in this game.

Tampa Bay-Nashville 3:2

Janis Moser, 2 checks, 4 Straf minutes, 20:25 TOI
Roman Josi, 6 shots, 1 check, 28:22 TOI

Janis Moser wins Swiss defense vs. Roman Josi. After overtime, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Nashville Predators 3-2. Canadian Nick Paul had the decision in Florida's favor after three minutes of extra time.

The Predators struggled through their first five games of the season, losing for the first time after three wins. Neither Swiss scored any points in this game. With more than 28 minutes of playing time, no player on the field has played as long as Roman Josi.

Nashville has had a rough start to the season:

Colorado-Chicago 2:5

Filip Kurashev, 1 goal, 4 shots, 1 block, 18:01 TOI

Philip Kurashev was also one of the evening's honorees. The Bernese man opened the scoring in the Chicago Blackhawks' 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, scoring his second goal of the Champions League less than nine minutes into the first third of the game.

Chicago's player of the game was Ryan Donato, who scored two goals and added an assist. The Blackhawks won for the first time in four losses, while the Avalanche snapped a five-game winning streak.

Vancouver-Carolina

Pius Suter, 1 goal, 4 shots, 2 penalty minutes, 11:28 TOI

After four straight wins, the Vancouver Canucks and Pius Suter once again left the ice as losers. The team with Zurich forward lost 3:4 after overtime at home to the Carolina Hurricanes, who were also in strong form.

Suter scored his second goal of the season three minutes before the end of regulation, ensuring the Hurricanes had to serve with a 3-1 lead. Finnish Sebastian Aho needed just 46 seconds to make his decision. (Ritz/SDA)
