Who is Alex Salmond's widow Moira?

Moira Salmond, whose maiden name is McGlashan, is from Peebles in the Scottish Borders.

She met the supposed Scottish National Party leader, 17 years her junior, in the 1970s when she worked in London as a civil servant.

Mrs Salmond, then McGlashan, was 24-year-old Mr Salmond's boss at the Scottish Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in London.

Salmond joined as an assistant economist and the couple married in 1981.

Mrs Salmond is known for keeping a low profile and has not given interviews or speeches during her time as 'First Wife'.

According to Expressar, she gave her only newspaper interview here in 1990 and revealed that the couple liked to play cards and Scrabble together – which she 'invariably won'.

Salmond was accused of a series of sexual crimes in the years following the end of his seven-year term as First Minister in 2014.

Ms Salmond has not publicly commented on the allegations but showed a clear sign of support by arriving at the High Court alongside her in Edinburgh in 2020.

Salmond was charged with 13 crimes against nine women, including attempted rape and a series of sexual assaults.

He was cleared of all charges by a jury after the 11-day trial.
