White women helped Trump win in 2020. But this time, a new problem and a new opponent may affect them.

Dr. Theresa Wheeling has been a registered Republican and voted for Donald Trump during the 2020 presidential election. Following the 2022 Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Wheeling has changed its party affiliation and is now voting for Vice President Kamala Harris. Voters, like Wheeling, in such a state — Pennsylvania, the biggest battleground state — could decide the election.

“I was embarrassed to call myself a Republican,” Wheeling told NBC News. “Four years ago, I might have said no (to Harris), but now I think he’s more moderate. And I absolutely cannot vote for Trump.” For white voters, the economy is the top issue, followed by democracy, immigration and preserving abortion rights. And for Democrats, it is abortion that could make the biggest difference in this voting bloc.

White women are a key winning demographic, and since 2000, the Republican Party's presidential ticket has won a majority of them. Now, new research shared for the first time with NBC News suggests this demographic Occupation could take place in 2024.

Middle-class homeowners are being squeezed by rising housing costs

Homeownership in the U.S. comes with increasingly prohibitive monthly costs, especially among middle-class homebuyers, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data.
