All but a handful of Grand Theft Auto games have taken place in one of three main settings, leading many to wonder where all the GTA games take place.
After several years of speculation, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take players back to Vice City. Unlike previous installments that take place in the iconic location though, the game will explore a much larger area than just the Miami-inspired city, extending out into the fictional state of Leonida, which draws much of its inspiration from the US state of Florida.
Grand Theft Auto 6 and Every Other GTA Game Set in Vice City
Vice City is one of the most popular locations in the GTA franchise and has appeared in some of the very best Grand Theft Auto games to date.
As series fans will know all too well, Vice City isn’t the only franchise setting that’s based on a real-world location. Far from it, in fact. Liberty City is based on New York, while San Andreas incorporates elements from both California and Nevada. All three of these locations have appeared multiple times throughout the series, leading many people to wonder where all the GTA games take place.

The Most Common Locations in Grand Theft Auto Games
With the exception of Grand Theft Auto 2 and its London-themed expansions, every Grand Theft Auto game has taken place in one of the series’ three main locations. New York-inspired Liberty City has appeared in the most GTA games, having served as a location in six of the franchise’s 12 mainline, expansion, and spin-off games to date. San Andreas and Vice City are tied in second place with three appearances each, although the latter will move clear of the former when GTA 6 is released in 2025.
