Classic WoW has been a blast from the past for players since it premiered back in 2019, and we’re now nearing the dawn of a new era — one that has fans hesitant to say they’re excited for. This is World of Warcraft Classic Cataclysm, and here’s the release date.
WoW Cataclysm Classic: When will it be released?
For those just getting back into WoW more recently, this may be due to the recent release of Season of Discovery, which has been a fresh light for the series. Players who have stuck to Classic WoW have been venturing throughout Northrend and aiming to stop the Lich King.
Blizzard has released the final wave of content (from what we can tell) for the current era of Classic, which came in the form of the Icecrown Citadel raid. They announced Cataclysm Classic during Blizzcon 2023.
Now, players will have to get prepared and get their pre-orders in, as the expansion doesn’t have a clear-cut release date for the time being, but Blizzard has noted they intend to release it during the first half of 2024.
This lines up with WoW’s retail plans to release The War Within later during the Fall of 2024, so the two releases don’t conflict with one another, and players will have the chance to check out both.

One aspect to note with the release of Cataclysm Classic is how Blizzard has already stated that they intend to change the DLC up a bit and not leave it in its original state.
This is probably because Cataclysm is when a lot of the ‘old school’ WoW players got frustrated with Blizzard’s changes to the game, and for many, it was the decline of their interest in the franchise.
However, the DLC also marks when Blizzard revamped many stages throughout Azeroth, so we’re excited to see how this will look once again, and it should be an exciting time for WoW fans.
