What is the Addled Frog in Baldurs Gate 3 (BG3)

While adventuring in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1 you’ll no doubt encounter Auntie Ethel and the Putrid Bog area of the map. This spot in the Sunlit Wetlands hosts a strange, hissing creature named the Addled Frog. But what is the Addled Frog in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

What to do with the Addled Frog in BG3

The Addled Frog is a victim of Auntie Ethel in Baldur’s Gate 3. I recommend speaking to the Addled Frog only after you’ve dealt with Ethel at her home while rescuing Mayrina. You will get different interactions depending on whether you’ve already done this.

If you haven’t gone on this adventure yet, the frog will urge you to kill it, but if you have dealt with Ethel, go to the frog and it will lead you to some excellent treasure! Consider saving your game and revisiting before and after meeting Ethel!

Where is the Addled Frog in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Addled Frog is north of the Riverside Teahouse waypoint in BG3. You can reach this area by keeping right when you approach the gnarly gates before reaching the Gnarled Teahouse.

Past these gates, you’ll see some wooden steps leading along the coast further north. You’ll likely see the frog’s subtitles marking the spot, so if you see hisses and rabbits, you’ve come the right way.

Should you speak to the frog before or after dealing with Ethel in BG3?

Speak to the frog after you’ve found and survived Ethel’s hag form, it’s the superior choice in Baldur’s Gate 3. I tested out what happens if you kill it (because I am a monster) and all I got was several turns of slippery combat, no loot, and 3 poisoned party members.

The treasure you find includes the following:

  • Gold
  • Scroll of Detect Thoughts
  • Scroll of Shocking Grasp

However, you can try and explore the area but will need to run a successful persuasion check to find the treasure. The beauty of BG3 is in just how much freedom you have to make your adventure, with the Addled Frog being a prime example.
