Any surprises?

  • So far, no big surprises have emerged.
  • The anticipated close game appears to be about to become a reality.
  • The New York Times’ compass is turning toward Donald Trump. CNN’s forecast was more cautious.

What does the situation look like in the seven swing states?

No swing states have yet been awarded to candidates. The game was very close. This is also expected.

Georgia (16 electoral votes)

  • One-third of Georgia voters are independents. Four years ago, Joe Biden clearly won the state by narrowly winning over this group of voters. Donald Trump appears to be favored by independent voters, according to CNN's preliminary assessment. This could be interpreted as a sign of Trump's victory.
  • In Fulton, a key county with a large number of votes, Harris is currently doing the same as Joe Biden did four years ago, down to one-tenth of a percent.
  • Populous Gwinnett County is experiencing lengthy delays due to computer issues. Mail-in ballots from heavily Democratic suburbs could not be recorded.
  • Other counties not yet counted are also clearly Democratic-dominated areas. This time four years ago, things looked similar. No decisions have been made here yet.

North Carolina (16 electoral votes)

  • Ballots have yet to be counted in Democratic strongholds in the state.

Pennsylvania(19 Elektorenstimmen)

  • Voters had to queue here for up to four hours. This also applies to universities – where it is mainly young, well-educated people who vote. This group of voters typically votes primarily for Democrats.
  • In Philadelphia, Kamala Harris looks set to achieve a more decisive victory than Joe Biden did four years ago. Because so many votes are gathered here, this could be Harris' decisive advantage in the battle for Pennsylvania.

Arizona (11 electoral votes)

  • Thousands of voters were still lining up at Arizona voting centers shortly before polls closed. Opening hours were extended in order to truly count every vote.

Michigan (15 electoral votes)

  • It's too early to make predictions.

Wisconsin (10 electoral votes)

  • It's too early to make predictions.

Did anything unpleasant happen?

  • Georgia received a number of bomb threats. Polling stations in highly democratic areas were most affected. The threats are under investigation and there have been multiple temporary closures. In these places the urns are open longer. It's unclear how many voters decided not to vote as a result.
  • There are signature issues with 40,000 mail-in ballots in Nevada. According to CNN, many young voters are said to lack enough practice to write their signatures consistently. Based on preliminary assessments, it could take several days for Nevada to certify those ballots.
  • In Pennsylvania, polling places must also be searched with sniffer dogs after receiving bomb threats.
  • The FBI has warned that fake videos could spread misinformation on social media in the name of security agencies.

What is a Senate race like?

  • The race here is also very close.
  • It looks like Republicans will be able to hold a majority in the Senate. This would allow Donald Trump to act and govern without much resistance.
  • Ted Cruz was re-elected in Texas. He must compete with a local football star.

What else do you need to know?

  • There have been no violent disturbances yet.
  • Bitcoin price reacted sharply. The price was still hovering below $68,000 yesterday and is currently hovering between $73,000 and $75,000 (as of 4:30 AM). This is definitely the highest.
  • CNN's John King, the former host of “The Wall,” is also an absolute highlight this year. He's been talking for hours on end without a single “um” or “oh,” babbling on and on, and knowing the numbers and data for every one of the more than 3,000 counties. The man in front of the map of the United States is showing us art.
