In an interview with YouTuber Shawn Ryan last week, JD Vance gave his first insight into the likely policy stances of the incoming Republican administration under Donald Trump.

Republican vice presidential candidate and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance claimed in an interview with YouTuber Shawn Ryan that a senior European Union (EU) official threatened to threaten former President Donald Trump if the billionaire allowed him to return to X , he will be arrested.

“The leader – I forget who it was within the EU – Elon [Musk] sent this threatening letter that basically said: “If you Donald Trump, we will arrest you [auf X wieder] “Provide a platform,” Vance said in an interview published last week.

Vance then suggested using U.S. support for NATO as leverage to bring the Europeans to heel. “If NATO wants us to continue to support them, if NATO wants us to continue to be a good participant in this military alliance, then why doesn't it respect American values and free speech?” Vance asked. The United States will only support NATO under certain conditions.

The European Union and Elon Musk are at loggerheads. The reason is: X may face disciplinary action under the EU Digital Services Act that comes into force in 2022. The law contains a series of rules that place the responsibility on platforms to protect European users from illegal content and disinformation.

Ukraine peace plan

In the same interview, Vance proposed a peace plan for the war in Ukraine that would only benefit Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Vance said a possible peace deal could mean Russia retains the land it occupies and establishes a demilitarized zone along current front lines. Vance added that Ukraine would also provide Russia with “guarantees of neutrality.” “The current dividing line between Russia and Ukraine is likely to become a demilitarized zone, heavily fortified to prevent another Russian invasion,” he said.

Vance also suggested that Europe, particularly Germany, rather than Russia, must fund Ukraine's reconstruction. “Ukraine remains an independent, sovereign state. Russia receives Ukraine's guarantee of neutrality. It does not join NATO and some other allied institutions. “Germans and other countries must provide funds for Ukraine's reconstruction,” Vance continued.

Trump has never been friendly to NATO

Ukraine has been trying to join NATO and the European Union for years. As early as 2008, then-NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop said that Ukraine would eventually become a member of the military alliance.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his disdain for NATO—during his first term, he reportedly considered withdrawing from the alliance entirely.
