Hamburg have reportedly decided on their new coach. This is not one of the three Swiss names on the former Bundesliga giants' roster.
The once great Hamburger SV have been in the Bundesliga for six and a half years. Six coaches have since tried to bring the former Bundesliga giant back to his homeland, but so far all have been unsuccessful. On Sunday, Hamburg announced the failure of its latest experiment and fired Steffen Baumgart, who replaced Tim Walters in February. In the game against Schalke 04, the team's 2-0 lead was squandered and the standings fell to eighth place. The 52-year-old player also lost his job. The search for a successor is still ongoing.

That's because several preferred candidates have dropped out. Ruud van Nistelrooy is likely to sign with Premier League club Leicester City soon. Furthermore, according to Blick, Swiss Urs Fischer did not want to support another second division team like he did at Union Berlin and therefore turned down HSV. Sky reported late on Thursday that the club had placed Fisher on their roster but had not yet contacted him. Niko Kovac, who is currently without a club, and Lucas Quasniok, the coach of league leaders Paderborn, are also said to have canceled games.
That's why someone is now considered the best candidate for the vacant position in Hamburg. Sporting director Stefan Kuntz, who himself has coaching experience, has clearly ruled out a return to the sidelines and is holding concrete discussions with Bruno Labbadia. The 58-year-old has already coached HSV twice (2009 to 2010 and 2015 to 2016) and is very motivated to coach alongside fellow Swiss duo Milo Mueheim and Sylvain Hefty The club’s third term.

This means that Raphael Wiki will leave empty-handed. The 47-year-old has been out of work since being fired in Bern in March. Wicky was a former player for HSV (2001 to 2007) and is reportedly highly regarded at Hanseatic City. As a result, his YB successor Patrick Frame, who was employed at Hamburg between 2011 and 2015 as the head coach of Thorsten Fink and Jo ·Assistant coach to Joe Zinnbauer.
The search therefore continues with all three Swiss on the HSV candidate list. It will be particularly exciting to see what Urs Fischer takes on next. The 58-year-old has had two recent games canceled at FC Bochum. At Monchengladbach, already looking for a new coach and contacting Fischer after a poor start to the season in October, things suddenly started to pick up again. Gerardo Siane's side are the most in-form Bundesliga side after Bayern Munich and are in sixth place.

It is also unlikely that there will be vacancies at other German clubs in the near future that would interest Fischer. As recently reported, he's also not interested in returning to the Super League – YB are still looking. Although it's been over a year since he left Union Berlin, it could be some time before the fan favorite returns to the sidelines. (NIH)
