World number one Jannik Sinner faces a tough road to reach the final.
The ATP Paris Masters 2024 draw was not kind to Jannik Sinner. The Italian faces the prospect of facing Ben Shelton after being eliminated in the second round. A tough draw for the world number one until the title round, where there is the possibility of renewing his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz.
Having confirmed his status as year-end ATP No. 1, Sinner will look to add to his three ATP Masters 1000 wins in 2024 and his eighth overall.
Difficult matches are coming up against Holger Röhn or Matteo Arnaldi in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Sinner could face one of the three featured players: Alex de Minaur, Jack Draper or Taylor Fritz.
Rhone, who will open the match against Matteo Arnaldi, will look to repeat his title run at Paris 2022. The Scandinavian won a three-set final against Novak Djokovic to claim his first ATP 1000 title.
Fritz will open the match against either Jiri Lehica or Jack Draper in the second round. There is a third round clash with Alex De Minaur in the round of 16. A possible rematch could follow in the quarter-finals against Sinner, who has transferred from the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. Holger Rune is also a potential opponent in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz will have a reason to smile after getting an easy draw. The Spanish player Nicolas Jarry will lead the second round, followed by the French Ugo Humbert, Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul, in the quarterfinals. A possible showdown with 2020 champion and fourth seed Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals is the first challenge he will face.
With the Paris results likely to determine the remaining places at the ATP Finals, Djokovic's absence from the 2024 Paris Masters means confirmation of the final eight lineup is unlikely until November.
Djokovic, the defending champion, announced in the middle of last week that he would not participate in this year's Paris Masters. The decision not to skip the Paris Masters leaves his qualification for the ATP Finals hanging by a thread. Djokovic is currently in sixth place in the direct race to Turin.
