It’s time for lift-off… but not just yet. Come November 8, you can play Cobalt Core, a brand-new sci-fi roguelike that features strategic deck-building and vibrant art. This tactical RPG introduces you to a roster of charming characters, each inspired by various animals and creatures.
For more information about Cobalt Core, you can visit the game’s official Steam page – where you can also download the demo! Whilst you’re there, make sure to wishlist the game on Steam too. Brace Yourself Games also has a dedicated section on their official website for Cobalt Core.
What is Cobalt Core?
If you’re looking at the art style and thinking “Wait… that looks familiar”, then you’re actually spot on! The makers of Sunshine Heavy Industries are also behind Cobalt Core, with the latter looking like a much more polished version of the previous game. You can see where the building blocks for the original concept were placed, with Cobalt Core being a lot more refined in style and gameplay.
Build Your Deck to Protect Your Space Ship!
So, what do you do in Cobalt Core? As it’s a deck-building strategy game, it’s your job to utilise a wide range of playing cards during battles. You need to duck and dodge oncoming attacks whilst making sure your ship also raises its shields to increase defense.
Plus, your opponents have weak points that you must target by using your attack cards! The roguelike elements come into play as you can select from a roster of ships and characters before each run – allowing for plenty of replayability that never gets boring.
Each character has a different playstyle, giving you the chance to experiment with your card deck depending on who you choose for your team. Aside from the tactical battles, there are also individual stories to delve into for each character.
Provide crew members with special artifacts that change the rules of combat, creating completely unique runs every time you dive in. And yes, there are skill upgrades! There are different upgrade paths for each crew member, giving you the freedom to decide which is best depending on the character’s role – and how the overall battle is going.
