Two individuals have been arrested in Japan for reproducing the data of several manga magazines over the course of a year.
Foreign national Musa Samir and one unnamed suspect are accused of obtaining access to manga magazines such as Weekly Shonen Jump before the street date and then scanning and taking photos in order to leak and spoil content.
At least two manga scan sites have closed down shortly after the arrests were made, at least one of the sites appears to have been particularly egregious in leaking One Piece chapters.
While western readers tend to enjoy fan translations, it appears that some leakers in particular are a problem as rather than provide consumable content, they tend to post inflammatory leakers and spoilers to anger fans for engagement. As a result, western fans seem to be relieved the leakers were caught.
It makes sense for fan translating series that dont have a translation, but why would they do one piece when it gets translated every week for free
