Trump joins Elon Musk, Melania Trump and other high-profile supporters in rallying support in his native New York, where he is largely unpopular. His comments were offensive and insulting, as was often the case.

At the famed, nearly 20,000-seat Madison Square Garden, the 78-year-old Republican launched a personal attack on opponent Kamala Harris, eliciting loud cheers — despite much criticism about Democrats and immigration policy. false statements. Trump and several speakers before him have repeatedly insulted Harris as a “low IQ person.” It was a derogatory remark he often repeated during the campaign.

The same applies to the more controversial claim about the “enemy within.” Two weeks ago, Trump went on Fox to label Democrats and others with whom he disagreed and said he would use the military against them if he was reelected. In New York, he repeated those remarks.

While Trump's supporters have characterized the comments as exaggerations, many critics have expressed concern that Trump could become serious as president and subject those who think differently to persecution.

Trump also addressed the United States' longstanding battle with illegal immigration, saying:

“The day I am sworn in, the invasion of our country by immigrants will end and the rebuilding of our country will begin.”

Elon Musk also gave a speech in which he praised future economic policies under Trump – his involvement: “The future is going to be great,” he shouted to the crowd.

His wife, Melania Trump, has made few appearances during the campaign, while former wrestling star Hulk Hogan has previously spoken in Manhattan.

The appearance of former first lady Melania Trump was particularly surprising. During the campaign, she remained largely in the background and, with few exceptions, did not appear with her husband.

Difficult relationship with New York

Trump's appearance in America's largest city, a Democratic stronghold, was clearly intended to make a statement. It should also help some Republican legislative candidates who are hoping to win a series of close races in the state and win U.S. congressional seats after the Nov. 5 election.

Trump, who hails from Queens, New York, had a brilliant rise as a real estate company heir in New York in the late 1970s and 1980s that helped him gain national prominence. Since the polarizing 2016 campaign, many liberal New Yorkers have distanced themselves from Trump and his right-wing populist politics.
