The coalition agreement between the CDU, the Socialist Party and the Social Democratic Party of Thuringia has come into effect. Exactly eleven weeks after the state election, leaders of the three political parties have agreed on a draft government contract.

After a two-day recess between the leaders of the two parties in Ilmenau, those involved said there was only some good work to be done in the next two days. The coalition agreement is expected to be tabled on Friday. This means that a large part of the road to Thuringia's new government and Germany's first so-called BlackBerry Alliance is already complete.

However, approval from all three partner party committees is still missing. BSW has announced that it will hold a party congress on December 7 to focus on member approval of the coalition agreement. Unlike the exploratory document, this time party founder Sahra Wagenknecht sent a positive signal about the planned coalition agreement. The SPD is planning a membership survey.

Wagenknecht sees improvements

Previous negotiations in Thuringia had been influenced by Wagenknecht's demands, particularly on issues of war and peace. BSW's namesake is now satisfied with the progress of the discussions. As far as she is aware, the coalition deal her party plans to strike with the CDU and SPD looks “significantly different” from the exploratory document. We are very happy about it,” Wagenknecht told the ARD talk show “Maischberger”. However, there must be pressure for this.

The three parties have agreed on a preamble to a coalition agreement covering issues of war and peace, but Wagenknecht is not yet satisfied. BSW wants to realign. Now it is said that BSW's peace policy stance will also play a role in the text.

Developed projects and common goals

Relevant sources said that the coalition government agreement stipulates specific projects and goals in the fields of education, health, economy, immigration, administrative modernization, social affairs and community development. No details were given Friday. “We have made a good start and will significantly improve the lives of Thuringians,” the partners simply explain. Discussion goals are clear and pragmatic. Everyone involved said “they acted across partisan political lines in the national interest.”

The department design has not yet been determined

It is said that the layout of various ministries was also discussed during the two-day meeting since Monday. In addition to the Chancellor, Thuringia currently has eight specialized ministries and a ministerial Chancellery of the Head of State. Negotiating circles said the departmental layout has not yet been finalized.

The CDU, SPD and SPD hold 44 of the 88 seats in the Thuringian state parliament. The BlackBerry Alliance, named after the party colours, will therefore rely on at least one vote from an opposition party (i.e. the left or the Alternative for Germany) when making decisions.
