Epic Games has released numerous Fortnite features over the past few years. All of these features made the game look different and are a big reason why Fortnite is still so popular in 2024. Due to this, it’s no surprise that the development team will keep releasing new features and improving the game.
Tim Sweeney, Epic’s founder and CEO, revealed a game-changing feature that will come to Fortnite. This feature is character customization, and even though he revealed this over a year ago, this hasn’t caught a lot of attention. However, there is a chance that Epic will release it very soon.
Skin customization may come to Fortnite soon
At the moment, Fortnite’s Item Shop is the primary source of cosmetic items. In addition to that, it is possible to also earn free Fortnite skins for a limited time. According to Tim Sweeney, Epic Games will release a skin customization feature in Fortnite. The company’s CEO revealed this in an X post in December 2022.
When he was asked about the possibility of this feature in Fortnite Creative, Sweeney said that the feature would come “eventually but not very soon.” Considering that it’s been more than a year since this post, it won’t be surprising if Epic brings this feature in Chapter 5.
While this may sound like a bad idea for the popularity of Fortnite’s Item Shop, Epic could still make it profitable. Skin customization would likely allow players to change every part of the skin. Due to this, Epic could sell new items in the shop, such as hairstyles, body types, and others.
Fortnite has already had several customizable skins in the past, with the first one being Gear Specialist Maya in the Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass. Giving players full control over their skins could be a win-win for both sides if implemented properly. The feature would change the game forever, allowing players to create whatever is on their minds without having to rely on Item Shop rotations, which is why we’re hoping it will arrive soon.
