Highlights
- Destiny 2’s Final Shape expansion introduces the game-changing Prismatic Subclass stunning all three Champion types.
- A new meta may emerge as players can equip gear based on personal preference, departing from strict Champion countering restrictions.
- Prismatic Subclass offers freedom in weapon choice and Seasonal Artifact Perks, potentially reshaping Destiny 2’s progression system.
The new Prismatic Subclass coming in The Final Shape expansion will give players the chance to combine certain abilities from the existing Light and Dark Subclasses in Destiny 2. In a recent TWID blog post from Bungie, players got to see a breakdown of every Subclass ability and super that will be available in the new Prismatic Subclass when it releases. While players are mainly excited to test out the synergy between the Subclass-specific buffs and debuffs that Destiny 2’s Prismatic Subclass makes possible, players should also consider the potential this new Subclass has when it comes to countering the different types of Champions.
As long as players meet the Power Level requirements, there are little to no restrictions as to what kind of gear can be brought into endgame activities in Destiny 2. However, if Champion enemies are present in an activity then this will generally require players to equip particular weapons, Subclass abilities, Seasonal Artifact Perks, or Exotics that are capable of stunning Champions.

Destiny 2’s Chill-Clip Riptide Meta Explained
Currently, many players have integrated the Riptide fusion rifle in Destiny 2 as a core part of their endgame PvE builds, because, with the Chill-Clip perk, this weapon can reliably counter two of the three different Champion types on its own. This weapon isn’t necessarily weak outside of this primary use, but it does tie up the player’s energy weapon ammo, which can be a major source of DPS.
Chill-Clip is a perk available for Stasis weapons that allows them to Slow and Freeze enemies, which will stun Overload and Unstoppable Champions, respectively.
The Riptide fusion rifle is just one example of how Champion-counter weapons generally require players to sacrifice certain elements of their build strictly for the purpose of countering Champions in Destiny 2. With the new Prismatic Subclass though, this will potentially be a thing of the past.
At the moment, the existing Light and Dark Subclasses in Destiny 2 are only capable of stunning up to two of the three Champion types, which means players would have to equip at least one weapon that can deal with the remaining Champion type(s). However, with the new Prismatic Subclass, Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks will all seem to be able to simultaneously utilize Subclass-specific Champion counters for all three Champion types.

Destiny 2’s New Prismatic Subclass is a Blessing in Disguise
With the Prismatic Subclass allowing players to stun all three Champion types, this will give players the freedom to equip weapons based on their personal preference or the current meta in Destiny 2. These aren’t the only freedoms that the new Prismatic Subclass will offer either, as it can potentially give players an entirely new way to approach the Seasonal Artifact Perks.
Seasonal Artifact Perks play such a large role in
Destiny 2
’s ever-changing meta that it’s assumed that this progression system will still exist in some form after
Destiny 2
transitions from Seasons to Episodes
after The Final Shape Expansion.
Should players choose to build their Prismatic Subclass this way, players can soon say goodbye to the days of Destiny 2 where their choice of gear, Exotics, and Seasonal Artifact Perks are influenced by Champion counters. All of this is thanks to the new Prismatic Subclass coming in The Final Shape expansion, which is anticipated to be a game-changer on multiple fronts.
