The sequel to Horror or Not 2 has been announced with the return of Samara Weaving

One of the best horror comedies of recent years was 2019's Ready or Not — and now it's back for a second round.

A Hollywood reporter confirms that a sequel, currently aptly titled “Ready or Not 2,” is in the works. Samara Weaving, who played the unlikely heroine Grace in the original, will return along with directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and executive producer Chad Villela. (Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett and Villela are part of the Radio Silence film group). Earlier this year, Weaving joked that she was ready for a sequel to Ready or Not.

In the episode “Ready or Not”, Grace joins the wealthy Le Domas family through their golden son Alex (Mark O'Brien). Following family tradition, Grace and her new in-laws must play a game chosen by randomly drawing cards. Grace draws a game of hide and seek, the unluckiest card of all. You see, the ancestors of Le Domas made a pact with the demon lord Le Bail (read: Belial) for prosperity. The price is the occasional human sacrifice required each time Le Domas' new spouse chooses to play hide and seek. Now Grace is playing the most dangerous game; he must survive until dawn, when the curse will reverse itself and kill all the Le Domas.

Emotions are woven into the premise, and the film's comedy comes from Grace's disbelief at the whole situation and Le Domases – members of the leisure class – who must (and cannot) do some work to survive. Grace carrying a rifle in her wedding attire is also a striking final look for the girl.

What will Ready or Not 2 be about?

Spoilers for “Ready or not” follow the instructions.

“Ready or Not” was a minor hit, grossing $57 million on a $6 million budget. Probably thanks to this, Radio Cisza got the job of directing the fifth and sixth “Scream” films, making them the first director of this series, next to the creator Wes Craven. The latest behind-closed-doors vampire thriller from the 'Abigail' directing duo – struggled at the box office despite some strong reviews. Perhaps this sequel is finally gaining momentum and Radio Silence wants another surefire hit?

Original Ready or Not writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy return for the sequelas did producers Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak and James Vanderbilt. No plot details are known yet.

Every other character from the original Ready or Not died horribly when Le Domases failed to kill Grace before the deadline. (Although in the film's originally proposed ending, it would have gone the other way.) Unless Grace makes the journey to Hell to meet Mr. Le Bail face-to-face, don't expect to see Henry Czerny in this sequel , Andie McDowell or Adam Brody. Grace's last words to her lover were, “I want a divorce,” but since he blew up before she could complete any formalities, she may very well be the sole heir to the Le Domas fortune – and all the curses that come with it.

One possibility is to focus the sequel on a different game than Hide and Seek. Capture the flag? Label? Musical chairs? “Abigail” also quietly hints that it takes place in the same universe as “Ready or Not.” Will Grace fight vampires this time? The sequel to “Ready or Not” should retain the satirical spirit of the original; as blood-sucking immortals, vampires If a tried and true allegory for the super rich.
