Following the failed Major Order earlier this week, players ended up on the back foot as they had to defend numerous planets from the Automaton. Following the failure, Arrowhead Game Studios announced that they would be granting all Helldivers 2 players a cape to mark the occasion, as so far players have succeeded in every Major Order event. After succeeding in defending the planets from the Automaton, it is now time to exterminate them once and fall and eradicate them from the galaxy.

The description for the current Major Order event reads “All Helldivers are ordered to make an all-out push to completely destroy the Automaton Legion.” Democracy Officer Quinto also alludes to it with his random lines of dialogue he says if you stand in the ship for long enough, including lines such as “We may at last expunge this Automaton nuisance.” Players have until 5 am EST/10 am GMT to liberate Tibit, Durgen, and Maia, with each planet currently being under 1% liberated at the time of writing.

With the available region and planets to liberate being much smaller than previous Major Orders, as well as much smaller than the Terminid’s, all signs point to the Automatons being no more by the end of the week. This doesn’t mean that the Automatons couldn’t return to Helldivers 2 in the future, but it looks like we will either be continuing our fight with the Terminids or facing a brand new foe, such as The Illuminate which has previously been teased but has yet to appear in the game. Recently, players have begun to notice cloaked ships in the skies, which could be hinting at what is to come.

With the Helldivers entering the final battle with the Automatons, and a new threat on the horizon, now is the perfect time to get into Helldivers 2 if you haven’t already. With the game selling over eight million copies within its first two months, it will surely become one of the break-out titles of the year and a potential 2024 Game of the Year contender.
