Mortal Kombat 1 is home to several blood-curdlingly gory fatalities that will have you slack-jawed with surprise due to how graphic each one is. However, one particular finishing move may have finally taken the cake for the most brutal fatality following NetherRealm Studios’ addition of Quan Chi to the game’s main roster.
Now, hardcore MK fans should know by now that Quan Chi is one of the series’ most ruthless and unfeeling magic-manipulators. Naturally, this translates into several moves and finishers that cause utter pain to the opposing character by forcing them to brutalize themselves. This includes his Mortal Kombat X fatality, wherein he forces the enemy to walk, open-mouthed, towards a floating sword. He then lifts them up afterward – blade in jaw – slicing them straight down the middle, exposing their halved innards.
Alas, this explicit representation of the human anatomy seemingly wasn’t enough for NetherRealm, as Quan Chi’s latest fatality is even more graphic than before. The new Quan Chi fatality in Mortal Kombat 1, as usual, sees the necromancer take control of the enemy, forcing them to claw out their eyes and lower jaw in horrifyingly bloody fashion. But the gore doesn’t stop there, as he then commands his opponent to twist their neck a full 180 degrees only to have them pull their head out with some of the spine still intact.
The now-headless enemy’s corpse then involuntarily hands its head off to Quan Chi, which the necromancer proudly holds aloft alongside his Kameo fighter. Predictably enough, community reaction has largely been positive, albeit a bit distressed, following the reveal of the new Quan Chi fatality. One Redditor even said: “My body took a damn snap shot and cringed when he clawed down his f*cking face.”
With more characters set to be introduced in the future, the reign of Quan Chi as the Mortal Kombat 1 character with the most brutal fatality may end up being short-lived.
