The Lord of the Rings Return to Moria is shaping up to be an underrated yet necessary palate cleanser following the disastrous launch of Daedalic Entertainment’s puzzling The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Further reinforcing the notion of the former’s mass appeal is Free Range Games’ revelation that the dwarven-centric journey had officially gone gold on PC ahead of its launch.
Based on a post made through The Lord of the Rings Return to Moria’s official X account, the developers stated: “Our team is happy to announce that The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has finished the final stages of development and has official gone ‘Mithril’ (Gold) for PC ahead of its Oct. 24 launch via the Epic Games Store.” Fans were predictably pleased upon hearing of the announcement, though some remain disappointed at the lack of a Steam release.
Much like the gradual demise of Moria, however, this news was accompanied by the unfortunate announcement that its PlayStation 5 release is being delayed over a week and will now be released on Sunday, December 5, 2023 instead. In a separate joint statement made through the same account, North Beach Games and Free Range Games said: “We are taking this additional time to improve various aspects of the PS5 version, and to ensure we can deliver the highest possible quality to PlayStation gamers.”
Both physical and digital editions of the game for the PS5 will be released on the new date mentioned above. Fortunately, those who opted for the PC and Xbox versions won’t have to wait as long because the Windows and Microsoft console release dates will still be on October 24, 2023.
