Over the past few weeks, Helldivers 2 players have been focused on the Terminids, with the Terminid Control System helping to eradicate the bugs from numerous planets. Now, it is time to once again go after the robotic Automatons, who haven’t played a large part in the story since the exosuit was introduced last month. Although Helldivers 2 is strongly associated with the Terminids, players are now discovering that the Automatons are more fun to face.
Players have taken to Reddit to discuss the differences between the Automatons and Terminids, with many agreeing that once you know how to defeat them, the Automatons and easier and more fun to fight than the Terminids. One of the main problems with the Terminids is that they can overwhelm you incredibly easy, even when it comes to the fodder enemies. There seems to be many more Terminids attacking the player at once compared to the Automatons, and stronger enemies such as Chargers and Bile Titans spawn in higher amounts.
Another common criticism is that it is difficult to fight the Terminids on your terms, instead being forced to fight them in any way you can, whereas with the Automatons it is easier to disengage and gain the advantage with your surroundings to be able to pick them off safely. U/TrumpersAreTraitors explained it perfectly saying “It’s just two different types of games. Bugs are more simple but bots are easier,” going on to explain that “Bugs are just running and reloading. Bots are like playing an actual shooter – you can snipe, you can sneak, you need to utilize cover and some actual tactics like flanking.” So, it all comes down to your play style and how you like to tackle missions. After having found myself with a mild addiction to Helldivers 2 and finding any opportunity to spread democracy, I have found that the Automatons are more enjoyable for my play style as I prefer the tactical approach and picking off groups of enemies from behind cover rather than just trying to survive an onslaught, but both enemies are fun in their unique ways.
No matter whether you prefer to fight the Automatons, the Terminids, or any other threat that is on the horizon including the The Illuminate, you need to make sure you’re prepared to bring Democracy to the galaxy.
