In a market where a lot of AAA games are starting to feel like reboots, remakes, or the same thing we’ve seen ten times with a different name slapped on it, indie developers are a boon. Especially ones who build a successful game singlehandedly, and soon mobile players will be able to get their hands on this, as Vault of the Void crosses platforms on June 22nd.
The story behind this development is interesting. It was made by Josh Bruce, a man who by his own admission had zero programming experience. With this, he built Vault of the Void and released it on PC, where it has sold over 130,000 copies, and sits pretty on Steam with a Very Positive rating.
Vault of the Void is a roguelike deckbuilder, where you build up a new set of cards each run, which ends when throwing little pieces of cardboard at a certain enemy fails. Where a lot of the entries in the genre before bet more on luck, Vault of the Void instead puts all the power in your hands, leaning towards skill instead.
Yes of course you might not always draw that one card you need out of the twenty-strong deck required at the right time, but that’s about as RNG as it gets. There are no random events to tackle in your journey, and you can preview your enemies before each encounter, allowing you to tweak your strategy before you battle.
There are over 440 Unique Cards to collect, and four different classes to try, each lending themselves to their own style of strategy. You can harness the power of 320 Artifacts to bolster your plans and infuse Void Stones into your cards to open up more combinations and possibilities.
Vault of the Void will launch on Android and Apple on June 22nd and will feature PC crossplay, so you can perfect your strategy anywhere, anytime.
