Players of multiplayer shooter The Finals are celebrating the game’s most recent patch – despite the fact it nerfed one of the most prevalent meta of the game from the last few months.
The game’s most recent 1.8.0 patch notes revealed among its many changes that C4s were getting a significant nerf, making them far less potent when stacked than they used to be. Until this point, players had long been stacking C4 onto explosive barrels and creating mini nukes.
There was some worry when this change was first announced, as the nukes proved divisive amongst the community. While some enjoyed the explosive chaos, others argue they were OTT. In fact, Embark’s last attempt at fixing this was met with some resistance by players just finding new ways to cause explosive chaos.
However, it seems in this case the nerf has actually gone down well with the game’s community. A thread, entitled “They actually might have saved the game with this one” by Jackbutrehab has plenty of members celebrating the change, claiming that their reduction in power means “They actually kinda require skill to use.”
“Glad to see they nerfed them without also completely neutering them entirely,” claims the top comment by Loud-Asparagus-4136 and noting the devs could’ve been damned if they did remove them altogether, and damned if they didn’t. “I see this as an absolute win.”
Even those who were sceptical of the changes when they first read them seem to have been won around. At first I was convinced that the way to go was to give C4 only one charge, but I really like this instead!” claims Potatoquake.
“Feels like Nukes are now really just a close range option and still very high risk high reward that you might see in quick cash but you’d have more trouble in ranked if opponents know not to clump up and to position right, they continued, adding “I think we’re gonna start to see C4 used in a lot of much more varied interesting ways now.”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see as time goes on if players start to miss the out and out destruction of the nukes, or if something else will take its place as the new hot meta. But for now, it seems this particular change might be the one that sticks.
