The Finals developer, Embark Studios, has finally addressed the community’s complaints about widespread cheating in the game. Over the past few days, players have been encountering several instances of hackers ruining matches without consequence due to a “technical issue that prevented [the developers] from banning cheaters efficiently.”
The recently released batch of The Finals patch notes, which puzzlingly contained only eight out of 300 alleged changes, only further exacerbated these issues. Luckily, the rampant use of exploits may soon come to an end, as the dev team has stated through the game’s official Discord channel that they are “now nearing a solution to this bug, and [we’ve] already begun re-upping our anti-cheat measures again.”
It’s currently unclear, though, when the update containing the improved security system will be released. However, we do expect it to arrive sooner than later to avoid a mass exodus of dissatisfied fans. In addition to providing an update on their plans to address in-game cheating, one of The Finals community managers also told players through Discord that they “don’t want to region lock” and that the decision not to introduce this feature was made as a company.
Player reactions toward the community manager’s comment have largely been divided as many continue to accuse players in other regions of hacking. But with no way of proving where an account is playing from without breaching serious internet privacy laws, those looking forward to this feature being implemented will have to wait indefinitely until it gets introduced to the game.
