Mytona announced today that The Day Before developer Fntastic has officially operations, which is going to lead to the shutdown of the servers.
According to the announcement made on Steam, the game’s servers will permanently go dark on January 22, exactly a month from now.
On top of that, we learn that the company has been working with Steam to facilitate refunds, and Valve’s digital download platforms is going to “proctively” refund everyone who has not received its money back yet,
Mytona mentions that the choice to shut the servers down is basically forced on them, as they have no development team to handle the game. Shutting down the project is the only option they have left.
Back on December 11, 2023, Fntastic announced that it would shut down operations due to the fact that The Day Before has been a financial flop.
Since the developers had no way to fund further development, they decided to fold. Shortly after, the game was unceremoniously removed from sale.
This happened just a few days after the release of the game on December 8, causing reviews to drop from “Mostly Negative” to “Overwhelmingly Negative” on Steam.
Players who purchased the game decried extreme differences between what was advertised in trailers and official communication and what they were given to play, triggering a widespread negative response.
If you take a look at the review section for the game on Steam, it’s hard to find one more brutal, at least to my memory.
The Day Before was originally announced in 2021, and it seemed to show some promise. Yet, Its development was tainted by by controversy and delays, which certainly wasn’yt promising.
