Starring in the hit Prime Video series “The Boys” has many advantages, but also a major drawback. Every actor involved in the series is sure to go through at least one nasty, disturbing scene. Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight, ended up with a loop mix, for example, during the filming of “Herogasm,” and The Deep actor Chace Crawford had to pretend to eat his octopus friend Timothy. A ton of bodily fluids are also often involved, which is a big problem for the Mother's Milk character, who has obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and a fear of germs. Los Alonso, who plays MM, has had to go through more than his fair share of gross-out moments, and in Season 4, he had an even worse moment.
In an episode of the podcast called “The Midnight Boys,” Season 4's sixth episode, Alonso shared some behind-the-scenes details about filming a truly nasty scene titled “Dirty Business.” Mother's milk has certainly gotten the raw end of the deal more than once. The character has gone through a large number of awkward moments, but for Alonso, it seems like what happened in season 4 really took the cake.
For a moment Alonso broke character
Poor mother Paul really had to put up with ridiculous, disgusting things throughout “The Boys”. He's been sprayed down with gallons of fake semen, and touched by a long-gestating love sausage (don't ask), but in Season 4 he had to help Webb-Weaver (Dan Mousseau) inject drugs into his back entrance. Instead, he initially sticks the syringe into Web-Weaver's web-hole, which is located just above his poop-hole, but then he gets it right, and Web-Weaver shoots some web into MM's cheek. It's a nightmare for anyone, but it's even worse for someone with OCD. For Alonso, as he explained on the podcast, the film wasn't really that great:
“In our show I've shot the worst things you know, and that's the only scene in my entire career… That's the only scene where I broke character and screamed. I have no protection for the other actor. I'm not going to tell you what happened during that scene, it freaked me out and spent an hour apologizing to the man.
It looks like Alonso Mousseau had an accident touching a chocolate starfish, which is pretty shocking as far as acting accidents go. It's hard to blame Alonso for yelling and apologizing, though he's been in a lot of bad situations in the series to begin with.
Webb-Weaver's difference may have been greater
What happened at Web-Weaver was far from Alonso's total moment (he also had a run-in with Deepin Kills), but he took it all in. However, it makes one wonder why there are such intense moments and how they affect the series as a whole. While some awkward moments are pretty funny, there are also some that take it too far, and everything in Web-Weaver certainly does that. The drug injecting and webbing are funny, if a little sad and gross, but when Hughie (Jack Quaid) wears a web-weaver suit and gets sexually assaulted by Tech Knight (Derek Wilson), it's way, way too much.
It will be interesting to see how the team behind “The Boys” handles the fifth and final season, even if it tries and doesn't try to be as bad as it should be. Given the increase in bodily fluids, killer animals, and pitch-black humor, we're almost guaranteed to be grossed out.
