The Block's Shayna Blais describes the most 'weird moment' of her TV career and discusses the 'dark' side of dating

Shayna Blaze revealed what was the most 'weird' moment of her TV career and gave insight into the struggles of dating in the public eye.

The interior designer, 61, has been best known as a judge on The Block since 2012, but has now revealed exactly how she landed the job.

She admitted that it felt 'weird' when she first signed on as a judge, as she had previously considered joining the show as one of the contestants.

While filming Selling Houses in Alice Springs, Shayna said she was stunned when her manager called her to ask if she wanted to be a judge on The Block.

“It was weird to begin with, because Black is something we all know and love,” he told Galaxy magazine.

'And I've been thinking about going on as a contestant on The Block, it's been in the back of my mind and I haven't said much before.'

And my manager called me and said, “Look, don't get excited. But how would you feel if you were a judge on The Block?” I'm in the middle of the red earth in Alice Springs, ”Er, yeah!” He added that.

Shayna said landing the job was one of the most 'weird' moments of her TV career, describing how she stood in a room when they sold the job rather than being interviewed.

She shared of the meeting: 'They told me how great it would be to have a female judge on The Block.

I'm sitting there going, “Oh, they're selling it to me, I'm not selling it to them”, it's one of the weirdest moments of my television career.'

Despite being shocked to land a lucrative job, Shayna has now become a recognizable face in her eight years as a judge on the reality TV competition.

Elsewhere in the interview, Shayna discussed the difficulties of dating in the public eye and how she tries to keep her love life really private.

Giving a rare insight into her personal life, she described dating a celebrity as 'tricky' but insisted she wouldn't go down the route of online dating.

Shayna described using dating apps as a 'dark, dressy and boxing experience' and said she really enjoyed meeting people in person.

Shayna was previously married to personal trainer Steve Vaughan but they split in August 2018 after 18 years of marriage.

Shayna, who is known for her high-profile property ventures, recently surprised fans when she detailed her biggest career move.

Shayna shocked fans in April when she announced that she would be turning her talents to music after releasing her first single, Warrior.

However, she doesn't see music as a new invention, but a long-overdue comeback after pausing her career as a singer when she became a mother to her children, Carly and Jess.

'There are many reasons why music has followed me. In the beginning it was my family. I don't make enough money to support them,' he said in May.

'It was about getting other income streams… you don't make a lot of money.

Shayna also gave insight into her dating life and said she refuses to use dating apps. She was previously married to personal trainer Steve Vaughan, but they split in August 2018

'Besides, my children are old and I sing when they are young. I would put them to bed, go to sing and come back and my parents would take care of them. But my daughter got to the point where she was 14 or 15 and she was going to parties. I “think I should be around”.'

The block judge said that it hurts her not to perform so much that she can't listen to music for long periods of time.

'I missed it. There was really something about listening to music, so I stopped listening to music for a while,' she admits.

'Songs I used to enjoy are no longer played. I suppressed it because I missed it so much.'

Shayna revealed her secret vocal talents last December during the song I'll Be Home for Christmas.
