With the completion of the recent Major Order, Helldivers 2 has seen its biggest change since the game launched in February 2024 as the Automatons are no more. Many were skeptical as to whether the completion of the Major Order was going to result in them being eradicated, or whether they would somehow survive and continue to be a threat to the Helldivers. But, at least for now, the Automatons are gone from Helldivers 2 and many players are left wondering what is the next for the game and where the story could be heading in the coming weeks and months.
The recent Major Order that took place over the past weekend called for the total eradication of the Automatons. After failing a previous Major Order on April 1st, players ensured that they didn’t fail this one and pulled out all of the stops to quickly take out the Automatons for good, although it did take some time for all of the Helldivers community to get on the same page with its strategy. It was unclear whether this Major Order would be the end of the Automatons or whether the robots would find a way to survive. But, at least right now, it looks like they have been destroyed and now the galaxy is looking very baron.
Currently, players are unable to visit the region of the galaxy with the Automatons, with there no longer being any accessible planets. Instead, Helldivers can only visit planets controlled by the Terminids, with Hellmire, Estanu, and Crimsica being the focus of the current Major Order which ends on April 9th. With players now being solely focused on the Terminids, the future of Helldivers 2 is unknown, but it likely won’t be long before either the Automatons show back up stronger than ever, or a new threat appears in the game.
Recently there has been sightings of cloaked ships in the skies, which could signal the arrival of The Illuminate, a faction from the first Helldivers game that has been rumored to be coming to the game for some time. There is still a lot of empty space on the Helldivers 2 map with much having never been visited by players, and with the game only being two months old there is still plenty of time for new threats to make themselves known. Don’t worry, there is still plenty of democracy that needs spreading to every planet in the galaxy.
If you’ve been used to fighting the Automatons so far in your Helldivers 2 journey, then it can be jarring taking on the Terminids who acts and move completely differently.
