The wife of Terry Crews has revealed that he was married to the wife of the America's Got Talent host and almost ended up in divorce three times, but they were able to work through their issues after the actor went to 'work for himself'.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Rebecca King-Cruise spoke about her husband of 35 years and how much she admires his ambition and determination, but revealed that life isn't always as smooth as they once made it out to be. Homeless.
Rebecca, 58, opened up about the highs and lows of their relationship, explaining: 'Our faith is a common ground, so we share those values and even if we don't always follow them, we try.
'We both try to be a certain kind of person and then we believe in the fact that we chose each other for a reason.
'It's funny because we've talked about it because we've probably had two or three cases. [where] 35 years may end the marriage. Every time we were in those crises, one of us wanted to leave, but the other didn't, so the other fought.
Terry Crews' wife Rebecca (pictured 2021) has revealed her marriage to the America's Got Talent host almost ended in divorce three times.
The pair (pictured in September) have had their fair share of ups and downs
The mother of five, who is opening a boutique store in Pasadena for her clothing line Rebecca Cruz this week, continued: 'So the first time I wanted to leave, he fought for me. The second time he wanted out, I fought for him, and the third time he wanted to come clean about drugs, I kicked him out.
'He fell to the ground like a two-year-old begging me not to leave, and I said, “Well, you blew it, you know,” and he went to work on himself, he's a great man, but he can. Better still,' continued Rebecca.
Both Terry and Rebecca have been vocal about their marital struggles in recent years and, in 2021, the White Six star admitted that his porn addiction nearly destroyed their relationship.
Asked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage, Rebecca said: 'You have to make sure you're getting what you want and they're getting what they want. Part of the reason I was able to stay in my marriage was knowing what I wanted when I got married.
'I knew I wanted a certain life and he wanted what I wanted,' she said of Terry, whom she married in July 1989.
'Sometimes people fall in love with people who don't like what they like, and they don't like the same thing. One person wants children, the other doesn't. That's a recipe for disaster.
“So I hate to say it was like a job interview, but it really was for me, knowing that Terry's goals were so close to mine was a sign for me,” he added.
'It was hard, my husband was open about the problems he was having, but deep down, Terry was a good guy, he was my friend.
The pair (pictured at the 2024 Grammy Awards) are now business partners in their Rebecca Cruz clothing line.
The pair, who were pictured with their family, are now bare-knuckle, which Rebecca described as 'really funny'.
I loved him as a person before I fell in love with him, and he's still my friend, and I'll squeeze him one minute and hug him the next and tell him, “But you're still my boo,” Rebecca gushed.
The businesswoman said she holds Terry to a certain 'standard' but admits forgiveness is a key part of making their relationship work.
I'm always like, “Look, we're getting old now, it's time for you to stop doing that.” Whatever it is, I tell him, “I love you, but you can do better.” He said, “I'm not perfect”, and I said, “No, but you can do better,” she revealed.
So I still hold him to a standard, but I forgive him for doing things I never wanted him to do or things he shouldn't have done, and forgiveness is another principle.
'You cannot marry [and] You can't be friends if you can't forgive people, but if they're truly sorry you forgive them, you don't give cheap apologies, you don't just keep bad behaviour,' Rebecca explained.
'Sometimes you have to create some distance, or you have to say your prayers and go somewhere alone and let them feel the effect of not having your company, and that's what happened when we had our moment. I told him, “You need to be alone,” and he was devastated.
The couple, who are parents to four daughters Naomi, 36, Asriel, 33, Terah, 26, and Winfrey, 21, and son Isaiah, 19, have lived in Pasadena, California for 25 years, but they're definitely on. As a family, I experienced difficult times.
Rebecca admitted she holds Terry, who she has been married to for 35 years (pictured together in 2021), to a certain 'standard'.
'There was a season of our lives where we could have been homeless,' Rebecca revealed (pictured in 2018)
'There was a season in our lives when we could have been homeless,' Rebecca revealed.
'Surely, God provides, because something came to us.
'But we'd been out of our place for a week and we couldn't go anywhere, and after a while something came up and we literally moved across the street,' she says, noting that they lived in Burbank.
Speaking about what life is like now that her children have all left home, Rebecca said: 'I have a lot of freedom now, my husband and I travel a lot.
'Sometimes I can hang out with him while he's working and jump on planes with him, so it's a lot of fun being an empty nester.
'But I tried to make sure things were happening to me when they left the house,' she added, before teasing Terry: 'I will say this, he's like another kid!'
With her children all grown up, Rebecca has had more time to focus on her clothing line, and says Terry has been a significant support, both financially and emotionally, and she credits him with instilling a fierce determination in her.
For years Rebecca's focus was on raising her children while Terry's acting career went from strength to strength, but she said of her journey: 'It's never too late.
'You can focus on one thing and then another, and you don't have to burn your candle at both ends to live your dream.
“I have a new courage and a new hope,” he said. 'I feel so grateful and overwhelmed.
'I was with my staff and we were loading things from our storage unit and our studio and bringing things to the shop and I wanted to cry.
I was like, “Oh my God, I have a store in Pasadena!” It's amazing, it's a dream come true and I see bigger and better things.'
