The 2-1 score at the end of the third period of the second period was a joint effort between Timo Meyer and Jonas Siegenthaler. The striker from Herisau scored his seventh goal of the season and the 27-year-old defender provided his sixth assist in the decisive 3-1 win five minutes before half-time. For the Devils Valais captain, it was assist No. 230 in the best hockey league in the world.
While the Panthers leave the ice as losers for the first time after seven straight wins, the Devils are getting better and better. Florida State's win was its fourth in the last five games. In the East, New Jersey has climbed to the top of the table, having played the most games so far.
New York Rangers-Winnipeg Jets 3:6
Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg): 12:36 min TOI.
Out west, the Winnipeg Jets continue to circle the mountaintop alone. Nino Niederreiter's team extended their NHL starting record to 15 wins in 16 games with a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers. However, after his seventh consecutive success, the 32-year-old from Chur failed to score for the third time in a row.
Vancouver Canucks-Calgary Flames 3:1
Pius Suter (Vancouver): 1 goal, 4 shots, 16:19 TOI.
Pius Suter is among the top scorers for the second time in a row and the sixth time this season. The 28-year-old forward started at midfield to help the Vancouver Canucks beat the Calgary Flames 2-1. In the end, the home team won 3-1, which somewhat improved their calm record in front of the crowd. It was only the second win in seven home games.
Edmonton Oilers-New York Islanders 4:3 nV
Connor McDavid was once again a big part of the Oilers' victory. In the 4-3 win over the Islanders, he scored one goal and assisted on the other three goals.
McDavid's score is 999. He needed 658 games to do that. He's on track to become the fourth-fastest man to score 1,000 points. Only Wayne Gretzky (424 games), Mario Lemieux (513 games) and Mike Bossy (656 games) have accomplished it faster. (Random Access Memory/SDA)
